I feel the pain and sadness now for Aimi. For me she was the best. Maybe her playing was not universal, best for everybody, but she is in her own way..special. Her music goes through me and bring me in beautiful and dramatic and colorful world. She should get better than this.. hopefuly she is happy and not sad now..like me.
in my humble opinion, she is the absolute winner of the competition until the final stage. and also the 2nd movement of the concerto was out of this world. but in the first and specially in the last movement of the concerto, she was not "in touch" with the orchestra, playing her own story, sometimes "aganist" the conductor. i also love this kind of "fight" but not the jury i can imagine. Anyway Aimi you're the one who figure out Chopin's music in a totally personal adn different way. I love it. Thank you and take care of your gift. Paolo from Italy

I imagined how hard you've been bracing up for this Chopin competition since the last one. For 6 years. I feel you've come such a long way, even if you were already perfect. Every session, every performance was deeply touching. You delivered your everything with all your might and I could feel it.
This performance of the preludes is going to set the benchmark for generations to come. There are elements of sadness, darkness and melancholy that connect each piece like they really are a single giant unit. I felt so transported in this uncertain, foggy, almost uncomfortable and beautifully painful atmosphere that kept me so focused throughout the entire performance. At times I couldn't really believe at her magic. This was an incredible experience just sitting on the couch in front of the TV. Imagine being there! Every person in the world should listen to Ms Kobayashi playing this. Astonishing! Also she is very beautiful ;)

It's pretty good, but if you want to hear a truly legendary pianist perform the preludes live, I'd recommend Bolet's famous 1974 live recording in Carnegie Hall. There are many other epic live recordings, but the one by Bolet has been a best-selling Sony recording for many years. Highly recommended!

@@TheSoteriologist I have to say that I like Aimi’s preludes the best.
My Goodness…. Kobayashi! . She is a beast in a way she brings her inner reflection into the story of the very pieces.. She said the preludes have many “characters” to show, and she really proved it. All the characters she delivered are the truth itself. . I especially love it when she takes time in a small reflection: 26:26 .
Oh Aimi...I fell in love with the way she plays and expresses herself through the music from the first note...and sight. There is something about her that makes me feel these pieces deep in my heart. This is marvellous, full of harmony and beauty and the words are probably unnecessary here...

Never too harsh or aggressive for the sake of showmanship, unless required by the music itself. She serves the music, and not vice versa. The range and complexity of characters she brought out in the Preludes are astounding. From the paining sorrow and sense of inevitability of No. 4 16:10, the warm gentleness and childhood nostalgia of No. 7 21:23, the heavenly forgiveness and sense of possibility of No. 13 28:51, the natural beauty and loving embrace of No. 15 33:20, the burning anguish and lost glory of No. 20 47:21, the flowing fury of no. 22 51:17, to the conflicting chains of thoughts and unsettling truth of No. 24 53:04.
