This is a great tutorial/instructional video on aiming with spin and makes much more sense now. EVERY other video on YT gets extremely technical on the science behind it and loses me. Thanks John for explaining it in an easily digestible way!

Incredibly helpful, learning how to effectively using spin is important to taking your game to the next level because you can start to play position with the cue. Thanks so much

Hey John, I have seen your CTE videos. I tried for a while but then I decided to focus on edge of the object ball. That brings me to a new kind of ghost ball perception which is similar to CTE. One day we were playing with a friend who is attending Turkish National Tournaments rarely. I asked him about my weakness on right side cuts and he gave me a good tip. Lately I encountered one of your videos. You literally had told about that but obviously I wasn't able to get it at that moment. The system that I use based on the object ball's edge, parallel line to the pocket from the object ball's edge (on the cut side) directly bring you the right angle if you perceive the ghost ball's edge approximately.I usually use a reference point on the object ball after I believed the ghost ball's edge is there (similar to CTE) and the parallel line to the first line brings me to ghost ball's centre directly. But I use a different system for side spins again similar but mine is fairly difficult. I will try this next time. Thank you for your videos. It helps a lot. (btw I hope you don't mind my mistakes, English is not my mother tongue :) Cheers from Turkey!

Very very nice dear John I've a question from you when I use the back hand English left or right in long shots I see deflection on my ball am I use of this system wrong or my cue or my tip has problem ?!?

John for the side pocket shot you are demonstrating swerve (spin based curve) has no time to make up for squirt. Virtually all of the adjustment needs to be for squirt, not swerve. Swerve only comes into play on very long or very slow shots. Squirt dominates short medium speed shots. Swerve dominates long slow shots.

What cue are you using for this demonstration? I have a case question.. JB have you ever put like a Silver Dollar into a case. I saw the 1 round medallion you did for the med. pocket that was on a piece of leather that slid in..and a round hole was cut. But there was quite a bit of thickness to the medallion thing. I've seen Silver Dollars done on saddles. Just wondering if you had ever done any on your leather cases? Good Video.

John , I do the exact same way, 90/90 pivot to center and then use your backhand English if you want some extra spin. I still don realize how the ball goes in the hole when we pivot to center it blows my mind can you explain.
@joebermuda64522 жыл бұрын
There is no such thing as a magic bullet for aiming! However, I personally feel that pivot based aiming systems are by far much stronger than any aiming systems that involve visualisation techniques or imagination(ghost ball, parallel lines, railroad track etc…..)

A problem I have with CTE and 90 90 systems is that there seems to be no adjustment for either of two factors I feel are important (at least for me). First, the distance between the bridge hand and cue ball can vary, and that will change the angle change when swinging the cue tip to the center of the cue ball and therefore the shot line. This means the systems are very dependent on the bridge-to-cue distance, yet I never hear that discussed. Second, imagine two shots to the side pocket where the line from cue to object is perpendicular to the side rail. If both shots are set up so that the balls are each the same distances across the table side to side, but different distances along the long axis of the table (one shot is set up closer to the corner pockets at one end), then the angel the object ball deflects from the shot line will be the same each time, yet two different deflections are needed. How do these aiming systems account for this?
@8329kelso4 жыл бұрын
It seems you're missing the point. The system didn't account for it. It just gives the aim line and contact point without spin. It's up to you to account for it. The pivot point and and bridge length that allow for back hand English to help with deflection also have to be determined through your own practice. They are unique to each cue. This is literally the whole point of the video. If having no system is the alternative to having an aiming system, then how does having no system help you compensate for English?

at 5:09 let's talk about that for a second. Most importantly the cue never curves back in from the the aiming line after using max inside or outside. UNLESS your hitting down on the cue ball. Meaning you've now masseyed.. One other very important fact, deflection is only going to affect the aiming line right around med speed and that's at full length of 9 foot table. If you want to test for yourself, put your cue ball on the head spot use max inside or outside aim at the end rail middle diamond, and find the speed at which the cue stays on that aiming line, you'll be surprised that EVEN with MAX inside or outside the right speed there's no to almost no deflection. Only when you are forced to use high cue ball speed or med to high will you get deflection. Things to consider, that's over 9 FEET most shots are half that distance or less, two using the correct speed to get around the table takes deflection out of the game. But most importantly deflection doesn't cause massey.. massey is achieved only by hitting DOWN on the cue ball. Far as aiming goes what ever works for the individual player is best, but all the swerving and pivoting of the cue is crazy bottom line.

Are you using an LD shaft or..?
@jbcasesoriginal8 жыл бұрын
No, but even with an LD shaft it's the same thing. You have to figure out where you can go from the centerball shot line with the shaft/tip/chalk combination you are using. I find that it's super easy to adapt to any shaft in minutes when I have the accurate baseline centerball aim to adjust from.
@onealr7 жыл бұрын
I'm not understanding back hand English here. I understand the CTE and 90/90 well what I'm missing is the side spin explanation. Are you hitting center ball and following through center ball, or following through the point of direction for the spin? Example hit center, but the follow through of the shot is not straight, but shifted for right or left spin. Or are you shifting the pivot more for the spin? I'm completely lost as to how to apply side spin with CTE.
@jbcasesoriginal7 жыл бұрын
You use CTE to get to the center ball hit. Then you adjust with the backhand to the spin you want and follow through on that line.
@onealr7 жыл бұрын
I've been doing that, but I miss. I'll keep giving it a try.
@jbcasesoriginal7 жыл бұрын
try adding less spin. don't go out too far or you will get more deflection. Start close to center ball and go out a little at a time until you are comfortable with the spin and speed you need.

All of this changes depending on your table conditions what part of the United States or world that you’re playing in as far as humidity aiming systems are crap you need a good stroke hit 1000 balls a day for five years and you won’t have to worry about a naming system
@jbcasesoriginal3 жыл бұрын
You are completely wrong. How balls react can change with conditions but the aiming system still puts you on a perfect shot line. Any deviation from that line to account for conditions is a matter of experience. I have used the same aiming system in all conditions with success.

@JustNow426 жыл бұрын
Dont understant how this aiming system works. Ligning Up Edge to Edge or any other way that does not depend on where you wish the object Ball to end Up cannot work.
@jbcasesoriginal5 жыл бұрын
And yet, it does. If I showed you the equation that covers ghost ball it would be useless to you. But if I tell you to imagine a fully formed ball in line with the pocket and replace it with the cue ball and you can do it then the math doesn't matter does it. Alternatively if someone says to me line up using xyz steps and shoot and the ball will go into the pocket and I do it then I really don't need to know why it works do I? The game is about results and even the greatest players can't tell you why some of the techniques they use work but they know that they work and use them effectively to succeed. In fact sometimes players will attempt to explain the science behind what they do and they fail.
