To clarify, in addition to Goku and Chichi having grown and changed physically over the course of three years, in the original manga there was no filler where Goku visits Chichi Beyond the first search for the Dragon balls about seven years before the 23rd world martial arts tournament. In the manga Chichi’s reappearance was more of a surprise as a result.

To be fair, in the manga, Goku only met Chi-Chi once, and she was only around for two or three chapters. It's more of a shock there, Toriyama pulling this random girl from the start of the series to show up at the very end of it. The dub also rewrote this exchange when Goku and the others drove away from Fire Mountain. Japanese... Chi-Chi: "When you're older, will you take me as your bride?" Goku: "I don't really get it, but if that's what you want, then sure!" English... Chi-Chi: "I was just wondering if you were ever gonna think about me again?" Goku: "I think so... Do you think you're ever gonna think about me again, Chi-chi?"

IMO he was good from the get go. All he wanted was to avenge his father without knowing the full context of everything. He was attacking Goku on instinct and he cant be fully blamed for that. Notice how he didnt kill anyone and was following the tournament rules completely until the last fight.

Facts. I used to be annoyed by her as a kid but when i was a teen and i thought about it i realized that her gripes were mostly reasonable. We're only against her because this is a fighting show and we want to see gohan fight, but if you were in her shoes you wouldn't want your kid constantly risking his life either. The only time she was completely unreasonable was when she said Gohan studying was more important than saving the world

Also i think most people blame her for how Gohan turned out (neglecting his training and becoming lame) but i don't think she's to blame for that. Gohan would have turned out like that no matter what be because he himself doesn't like fighting. Goku and chichi’s relationship is an interesting one He is not a character who would normally seek a romantic partner But I think by his logic if he had to share his life with a woman he definitely would of chosen her going off their past familiarity and shared backgrounds As well as making up for leading her on. As a married couple it’s not romantic and it’s definitely a disfunction but it’s one that works She may boss him around and he may run off at a moment’s notice but Neither one has any desire to be with anyone else and they seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s companionship

Always loved this Krillin v Piccolo fight. Makes me wish all the Z fighters had stayed relevant and been more on each other's level throughout the rest of the series. Krillin is still the GOAT so no shame in losing to someone who is so on par with Goku.

Piccolo relied on krillin alot after this especially during z. During the battle with the saiyans krillin and piccolo fought on par with eachother. Piccolo was definitely stronger but with how they fought against nappa you couldn't tell the difference. Krillin is that good

It's like Piccolo knew that Krillin was a worthy ally who wouldn't shy away when outmatched and would do his best (unlike Gohan vs Nappa), something that could be attributed to this encounter. One could assume that Piccolo was comfortable in Krillin staying by his side on the battlefield until they were either dead or victorious.

@bcbitchkkv definitely! It goes past even the battle with the saiyans krillin further helped gohan as a fighter taught him how to properly fight. On namek gohan wasn't just a rage fighter he was able to hold his own..krillin doesn't get enough credit for his hand on helping gohan. But again piccolo and krillin would continue to work together side by side...he'll even the buu saga those boys were turned to stone together and had to demonstrate the fusion together haha. Goku might be their best friend. But I like to think krillin and piccolo hang out when the world isn't ending haha

Remember, in the anime there's plenty of filler where they meet, but in the manga they only met ONCE before this encounter. Also, 8:50 now remember in DBS "Goku doesn't know what a kiss is" - but I think that's anime-exclusive as well.. but they fuck around with the canon waaay too much.

The reason he behaves this way here is the same reason he freaked out about Trunks feeding Mai senzu mouth to mouth, He is a boomer and dislikes any public displays of affection. I will not spoil the last episode of OGDB to you but he openly complains about something being done to him IN PUBLIC. He is a saiyan and is closed off. Even in sub this scene doesnt end with "but my heart does", it ends with "but I made a promise and I will keep it". Its just that the context is hard to translate for western audiences.
