Yea, he has slimmed down quite a bit since starting Crossfit. Given his history of helicopter crashes and serious abuse in Army special operations is no small feat.

If you are getting the starburst with red dots, you more than likely have astigmatism. A great way to reduce the starburst effect while zeroing the firearm is to look though your rear BUIS to the red dot. This will limit the amount of light that is being picked up by your eye and shrink that dot down to a smaller size (without the starburst) to make zeroing it a little more precise. I'm sure an eye doctor could give more scientific reason why this works, but it sure has helped me with my astigmatism.

I did learn something. I have astigmatism and I always wondered which part of the dot I'm supposed to be aiming for. I see a line instead of a Dot . That's why I mainly use Holographic optics or a 65moa ring with 1 or 2 moa dot . Much more forgiving even with astigmatism

Nice. I found with 55 grain .223 or 147 grain. 308 with a 16 inch barrel, a two inch low point of impact at 25 yards is very close to a 50/200 zero +/- an inch or two. I usually do this for an initial zero at indoor ranges (no wind) and then tweak at the outdoor range and the tweaks are minor.
@user-td1zo3tv9p6 жыл бұрын
LAV, thanks for the tips. Always appreciated, Sir. A question about the dot as you mentioned. I, too, notice a "tail" on my Aimpoint and others have remarked on seeing it as well. Is there a way to determine if there is some sort of defect which causes the tiny tail or blurred edges or is it just a function of the emitter reflecting off the glass that has to be lived with? Considering several others have seen the phenomenon in the same position of the dot, we mostly ruled out just aging eyes, but we aren't ruling ANYTHING out. Thanks again for yet another great video.

I spent thousands of rounds zeroing my aimpoint on my AK 47 and then separately for my 74 and 2 other AK, all of them different though all saigas. Kinda frustrating, but good practice and much necessary to get good. When the gun(s) get hot the zero shifts as well so frustrating.
@blockaderunner6 жыл бұрын
I do the same "yardage" 25 and 50 at the range. I used a spotter for 75 even 50. I will shoot all distances and a trip to the range will usually be 6-7 hours worth of shooting. Most people come for only an hour or two, I see them come and go. If I'm driving 30-40 minutes to the range, I'm not leaving in an hour or 2, but shooting 1000s of rounds if I can weather permitting. It's very windy at my favorite range as well. The 5.45 I have an ACOG with ACSS Primary Arms green chevron, very easy to zero and very accurate with the 5.45, but before I'd bought that I zero'd the Aimpoint T-1 (or T-2 if forget it's 2nd gen I know that) at 50 yards. The 5.45 Saiga is same-hole punching accuracy that the 7.62 is not.

Red dot sights are never truly parallax free in the range of 0 to 50 meters, you can easily test that by placing the optic on a table and move your head slightly, the dot will not stay on the target although the table/gun does not move... this is not an issue with eyesight, it is just how the technology works. The bigger the FOV the higher the parallax is on close range, this is why it is crucial to have the dot centered if you are aiming for maximum precision. My Comp M4S has something around 2,5 cm maximum dot shift if you are measuring from the left edge to the right edge of the optic, because you are zeroing with a centered dot you can take half of that so it is 1,25 cm dot shift effectively. To my knowledge this also happens at ranges above 50 m but it is not really noticeable because the dot is not that precise in itself and if you are not able to somewhat center the dot you are apparently not looking for maximum accuracy as well because you are on the move or something.

So...you end with zero at a hundred yards. I suppose for most combat work...that's a typical distance (or less). What about the occasional 200-300 yard shot with that same zero. How do you adjust your aim for that? Thanks.
@MrBullet8882 жыл бұрын
200 yards is roughly a 2 1/2" hold over. 300 yards is around 11" hold over. All dependent on what grain ammunition you're using but those will be close.
