I can't think of any other musician who so easily incorporates the tradition of Theatre and Minstrel into one of the most modern forms of musical expression. He's from Shakespeare to Rap, wrapped in great acting and performing skills. The ultimate performer, as he mirrors humanity in all its shades ❤

Benedict Cumberbatch did both the creature and Frankenstein in same theather in London, but varied by day. I guess Ren can do the same plus gitarr and extra! So very talented

Ren's acting skills are incredibly underrated. He is the quintessential "triple threat:" musician, actor, and storyteller.

It was all fun and laughter until the sunshine was gone. That was such a great shift of tone towards the end of the song. The audience went dead silent.

Everyday a new gem. Oh ren, oh ren where have I been?!! I'm jealous of all the people you've crossed paths with. Not because of your fame or musicianship, but your soul. Hope treatment is going well and you're happy because you are a bright light in a dim world

Wow, it's always been performance art. It's everything in one. Singing, musicianship, poetry, theater, authenticity, sincerity. It's just extra special. I dare anyone to try to look away for just one moment. Can't do it.

WHAT??? I say this with all honesty, I saw "Ain't no sunshine Ren Gill cover" and I yelled... cuz I really dislike the original song! But! But! I LOVE REN! What is this??? Im probably the only person I know who really dislikes the original (I know, I know, it's a classic, but I still don't like it and never have) and I clicked on this with a cringe on my face and was BLOWN OUT OF MY OFFICE CHAIR. What the WOW? I. am. speechless. Ren really can do everything. Fucker even turned my hate for this damn song and made it my new fuckn favorite. Wow. Out of this world, talent. Im so... wow. 🥰🙏❤

It winds me up when people say its a gift from God, no pal it's lots of hard work, dedication and shit loads of practice, no one is gifted talent you have to work hard for it
@AhsokaJackson Жыл бұрын
@@Microdave75 Hmm, I'll try to be succinct here, which is not one of my strong points. 🤣 As a creative myself, let me just say that writer's block is VERY good at reminding you that there's something larger than yourself at work and that you can't necessarily just produce content-at least not _good_ content-any and every time you wish. From my perspective, every benefit and advantage we get is ultimately via God's active OR permissive will, so it all goes back to Him. We didn't give ourselves the breath of life and bodies and much of the things in the universe that we use to function. And the idea of a gift doesn't inherently negate hard work. I could give someone a truckload of top-tier filmmaking equipment, but they still have to both learn (or already have learned) how to use it and put in the actual work to do so. Their work doesn't negate the impact of my gift, but neither does my gift invalidate the effort that it took. Parents are another good analogy. For kids who are successful in various pursuits like sports and music, they have to invest enormous amounts of time and effort themselves of course, but there's also a whole other aspect, which is that the parents also tend to have to invest a great deal of money, energy, travel time, and other things to enable that pursuit. Their contribution doesn't invalidate the child's work, yet it's also true the child wouldn't have been able to do it without getting that kind of help from somebody (and sometimes it'll be other folks helping instead). Like hey, a nine-year-old isn't driving himself or herself to tap-dancing class or a sports-medicine specialist, ha. I will say, I'm pretty sure I DO get where you're coming from. I see people thinking of abilities like writing as something you either have or you don't, and worse, that it's like some simple thing of just maybe going off somewhere in isolation and the words magically come out. It's bloody freaking aggravating, both because *HOLY HADES,* writing can be so hard and it's maddening that folks would think it's just so simple or easy, AND because I often see folks saying, "Oh, I could never do that," when I strongly believe that most people actually could write decently well if they put in the time and probably had some guidance to help them learn the craft. And I do believe that some folks have stronger aptitudes for stuff than other. Heck, that's a basic reality of life in general. But I also think a lot of folks are underestimating their potential and could become pretty darned good at many things if they had the time, passion, and resources to pursue those things.

@@AhsokaJackson When I see/hear comments like the one you responded to, I think: "Huh. So every kid in the neighborhood can grow up to be as great as NBA basketball Hall of Famer Julius Erving if they dedicate themselves to playing basketball, and practice for hours every day for years?" Of course, Erving wouldn't have grown up to be the legendary Dr. J either without the years of blood, sweat, and tears of his own labor. But we have to overlook Erving's height, proprioceptive abilities, fast-twitch muscle capacities, intelligence, and a host of other inborn, innate capabilities, which we might call talent, and we might call God-given, if we contend that hard work alone can create genius in any field.
