Linda Thompson, who lived with Elvis Presley for several years wrote this song with help from Clint Eastwood and Carol Seger and it is supposed to be inspired by Elvis. Diana's haunting rendition is SPOT ON. Kudos.

Saw the movie 🎥. Heard the song playing at the end. Couldn’t believe Clint helped write it! So beautiful that we ran out bought the CD on the way home. Now I have almost every album Diana has made but this song is the very best!

More than 10 years listening to this amazing song. So many things changed, but some feelings are still the same. Thank you!

I love this song. I think she looks so hurt and vulnerable in this video. The rose on the piano is so symbolic of the lyrics. Love is so amazingly wonderful, yet there are many thorns involved in a relationship. Especially in a relationship where love is the main focus. It is often, not always, the one who loves the most who ends up trying to avoid the places where love blossomed. Diane Krall and the somber music in this piece, creates an atmosphere of hope for the future. Especially the rose.

Was there something more I could have done? Or was I not meant to be the one? Where's the life I thought we would share? And should I care? And will someone else get more of you? Will she go to sleep more sure of you? Will she wake up knowing you're still there? And why should I care? There's always one to turn and walk away And one who just wants to stay But who said that love is always fair? And why should I care? Should I leave you alone here in the dark? Holding my broken heart While a promise still hangs in the air Why should I care?

Does anyone know what orchestra this is? I’m pleasantly surprised to see a music video for an album’s hidden track. The only other time I can think of that happening is the video for “Car Wash Hair,” a woozy, instant classic surprise track at the end [track 99] of the U.S. edition of Mercury Rev’s debut album.
