Hey! Thanks for the video and review. Glad you enjoyed the flight! :) In regards to the check-in and baggage, we would like to inform that Business class checked baggage allowance 40 kg (2x20 kg) may be pooled, however maximum weight of 1 piece cannot surpass 32 kg. We will contact our representatives at Madrid Airport once more about this. See you on board again next time!

Henk ter Linde not sure if it's a EU thing but they state on their website it's for all flights.
@xandrios6 жыл бұрын
Its definitely not an EU thing. Other airlines allow 23 kilo in economy and 30 kilo in business.
@porusky6 жыл бұрын
Wrong Henk: Iberia clearly says 23kg PER BAG. This is a Air Baltic Looney Tune Rule: "Checked baggage. On airBaltic flights, the maximum weight of one piece of checked baggage is 20 kg, and the maximum dimensions of the bag are 100x50x80 cm. BUSINESS - 2 bags with a joint weight of up to 40 kg free of charge. PREMIUM - 1 bag (max. 20 kg) free of charge."
@DennisBunnikTravels6 жыл бұрын
Hi Henk, I think it was the check-in (contracted) staff applying the rule by the letter. Generally the limit around the world (probably instigated by unions for good reason) is 32kg max per piece with any piece over 25kg needing a 'heavy' tag. Air Baltic has lots of small aircraft which is why they would have the 20kg limit but obviously for these larger aircraft it doesn't make sense. I've flown out of Madrid Airport 3 times now and twice have been sent to the wrong (satellite) terminal and had to go all the way through security again - this is a classic airport where they have concentrated on style over substance! cheers D
@henktl35806 жыл бұрын
Well, I am pretty sure it IS a H&S issue. Did some work for several airlines and the max weight is often 20kg or 23kg. Norwegian has it, KLM (depending on route), Finnair, etc. It may be that some airlines will cave, especially when you fly C/F but they shouldn't. I am surprised you never encountered it before. Anyway, want confusing airports: try FRA or MIA... :-) Happy Travels!
@raymondfu54936 жыл бұрын
Regarding your query in your Baltic Air video, I had an similar experience years ago when I was returning from the US to Malaysia. Though I was allowed to check in 2 bags , I only had one and it weighs 57lbs. Was told I must remove 7lbs from the bag as each bag must be less than 50lbs . I'm told it is because if the baggage handlers gets injured while handling my bag, their union will sue the airline . FYI.

The 20KG limit is probably a lifting limit for the baggage handlers. 25KG for certain items changed to 20KG a number of years ago (UK). It's an issue with back strain lifting heavy items. Basically it's 'Health and Safety' with 'risk assessments' that have been carried out. Which is a good thing, looking after staff's wellbeing. Great content btw.

Another great review, Dennis! I love the look of the C-Series, and hope to see it become more common over here in Europe. Given their smaller size interior/more fuel efficient engines etc., in comparison to the A320 family and the B737s, I really think there is potential for the C100 and C300 to become a regular feature on short haul routes intra-Europe; especially in light of Airbus acquiring the C-Series, and now maintaining majority control of the program. On a side note, bit of a shame to hear of your bad experience at Madrid airport. Lived here for 3 years and have never once had a problem barring a slowish baggage retrieval system. I find it a visually appealing space, and would take it over a busy LHR or US airport any day. My feeling is that you were just given bad information at check in, which led to the sequence of events that took you to the wrong terminal. If you ever do decide to come back to Madrid, give us a shoutout and I can show you around the city/give you an insider's guide to the airport ;)

I got a tour of the Baltic CS300 at Singapore Air Show this year from the Bombardier chief pilot. What a fantastic airplane. When Delta finally puts these planes into service I think the flying public will realize why Boeing tried so hard to block the sale. It’s the “787 game changer” of the narrow bodies - and is not a “regional” airliner in any traditional sense of the word. Can’t wait for the Delta debut!

@johnnyboy39494 жыл бұрын
The 20 kilo limit per bag may be a spain thing not an air Baltic thing. I’m sure I’ve read Spanish baggage handlers have a union thing meaning they don’t have to lift anything heavier then 20 kilo. Not 100% sure on that though.

This might be problematic since - I assume - you are the type of guy who would not want to talk about money. However, if maybe possible at some point, could you include the price (maybe just a ballpark figure) in the description?
@gingernut1516 жыл бұрын
Brixxlnator I was just going to ask this too, I know he probably uses frequent flyer miles etc but would be interesting to know how much these flights would cost.
@xandrios6 жыл бұрын
This is almost impossible to do. What is the price of one segment in a roundtrip of 4 segments total? Even if you know the total price for the roundtrip, it's not possible to calculate the price for one individual segment. Also, the price he paid would probably not be the lowest fare available...and therefore it doesn't mean much.
@Brixxlnator6 жыл бұрын
True, that is why I hoped for a ballpark figure at least - Mr. Bunnik certainly has the experience, I guess. :D Maybe not specifically for this flight, but in general. Sometimes on similar flights and in similar style (e.g. business class etc.) the quality of the service provided differs quite a lot (from what I can see) and so it would be interesting to see if that gets reflected in price.
@DennisBunnikTravels6 жыл бұрын
Hi - just had a look on the Air Baltic website and for this direct flight in business class mid-June is is showing 499Euros. The reason I don't show prices is because of the reasons listed by Xandrios above - generally my flights are part of a much larger itinerary (the trip that included this flight had 12 segments) so working out the price of one segment is isolation is difficult. Also this one was booked in Australia in Australian dollars. Airfares change constantly and also vary greatly depending on where and when it was purchased. Even going onto Expedia for example to price one leg can be misleading - for example KZbinrs claiming they were on a $20,000 flight - Expedia or the airline may price one sector like that but the reality is that nobody ever pays that much. cheers D

I believe the weight restrictions are to protect the baggage hamdlers, among whom injuries are widespread even in these days of automation. Apparently not all airports enforce the same weight limits hence the confusion.
@DennisBunnikTravels6 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel - the general limit around the world is 32kg for that reason with all bags over 25kg needing heavy tags. I understand that Air Baltic has the lower limit for their smaller aircraft but this one is the size of a 737 so I would think normal limits would apply. cheers D

Very odd checked luggage limit.... They will increase it to 32KG for 50 EUR (32KG seems to be the typical hardcap - must be max baggage handlers allow?), but that doesn't really explain the 20KG limit.... Also note it is an AirBaltic limit - not one just for that airport. www.airbaltic.com/en/checked-baggage "On airBaltic flights, the maximum weight of one piece of checked baggage is 20 kg, and the maximum dimensions of the bag are 100x50x80 cm." They allow for absolutely huge cases, just weirdly low weight allowances...

Which one you found better, CS300 or A320neo ?
@DennisBunnikTravels6 жыл бұрын
Parimal , I'm not sure if I've actually flown the A320NEO however this is better than any of the A320s i have flown.

A320neo felt far superior than A320ceo as a passenger. Spoke with a pilot & he said that A321neo has different wings too which makes that more of an upgrade than just engine change like in A320neo. Anyway, if possible, do fly the neo. It's way above ceo engines.
