Installing air compressor lines / Shop / Garage Air System in the House of Chop, including a gravity based air drying manifold / after cooler. This is one of the most simple and effective ways to get clean, dry air throughout your shop. I take you through the process of building a 3/4” copper system and explain how it works.
It’s important to keep the lines of your air compressor dry, you don’t want moisture ripping up your equipment and causing rust inside your tools. It’s especially important for plasma, sand blast setups, and any paint or powder work.

Thank you! I was looking at those! Just FYI most say rated for 125 PSI but there are some up to 200 PSI. I'll have to see if I can find a 200 for my applocation as a compressor whip. Thanks!

Nice build man, I've been running mine like that for 6 years, works a dream. A tip an old boy plumber taught me on solder, you'll only need the same amount of solder as the width of the pipe. So half inch pipe = half inch of solder etc. That way you don't get any mass build up of solder inside the pipe creating obstructions to slow the air flow or causing turbulence that lead to vibrations.

Beautiful work! Potential simplifications for me and others looking to create a similar setup: -rather than make the top loop from 5 pieces: 2 45 degree elbows, 2 short segments, and 1 90 degree elbow, you could make it from 3 pieces: 2 45 degree street elbows that will fit directly into the 90 degree elbow. At the bottom, same strategy, replacing the 90 degree elbow with a T fitting, at which point you can either have the ball valve and drains continue at a 45 degree angle or fit another 45 degree street elbow to make the drains parallel to the runs.

A simple engineering fact I just learned to have saved you from building that massive setup is to add a pump aftercooler between the air compressor pump outlet and the air tank check valve. The reduction of temperature to the supply air to the tank will keep condensation out of your air tank, especially in cold winter months where the temperature difference is massive. You just need a cooler, some fittings to adapt the line size from the cooler, and some soft bendable copper HVAC tubing to merge the compressor pump air supply through the cooler and to the factory check valve into the compressor. Then you can have your whole system water free from the very start! (Add dryers for complete water-free OCD lines, but be prepared to see them remain dry forever) 😁

Great job Chop. I would have loved to do this out of copper but I couldn’t talk myself into the expense. I have everything to do it in PVC. When I have time, that’s my next big project. I may be making a mistake and end up doing it twice which goes against my “Buy once cry once” mantra. You definitely did it right.
@HouseofChop
@HouseofChop 5 жыл бұрын
The copper is not cheap I'll give you that. There is some conversation surrounding PVC and if it's safe for air or not. I'm inclined to think it would be just fine but you may want to do some quick searches and see how you feel about it. If I had to do a long system I believe I would have done the manifold section in copper then ran the rest in PEX.
@ManCrafting
@ManCrafting 5 жыл бұрын
House of Chop I did. I know that air pressure breaking the pipe is the concern. Especially if it’s struck by something. I ran the pipe overhead so it’s lower risk. Also the pipe is rated for 480 psi, I’m only putting 100psi max. Also it’s indoors. Low exposure to UV which can cause damage. Also, if it breaks, the only cleanup is broken plastic. Air doesn’t make much of a mess.
@HouseofChop

I believe most this internet wisdom around the use of PVC is nonsense. I’m sure your system will serve you for many years without concern.

So many people are putting the cooling lines after the tank instead of before the tank and they use bare copper pipes instead of a transmission cooler, they put the lines against a wall and have no fan. I cut the tube from the pump, added a transmission cooler with an electric fan that blows on the cooler and the pump all the time and two water filters before it gets to the first tank. I then swapped the drive pulley for one 33% larger. I really like the system you built, I'm sure the compressor can keep up, but mine was a bit smaller compressor so I bumped it from 3HP to 5HP and then over drove the pump and added more cooling and extra tanks.
@HouseofChop
@HouseofChop 3 жыл бұрын
Putting the lines before the tank is 110% the better way to go. With the space I had here this is the best I could do. Your system sounds pretty badass but don’t count this one out. It’s a strong option and a passive setup that takes up very little space it also added quite a bit of capacity to the system. I’d be interested to see a video of your setup and how you pulled it together. Sounds awesome. 🔥👍🏼🔥

Looks good two tips if you're going to make more air lines it's agents code to solder air lines they need to be brazed. Also it has j high chance for a leak to solder an open fitting meaning both ends of the fitting should be fluxed and soldered at the same time. The blue weighting is to signify it's type l copper and doesn't affect solder or brazing

nice practical job. after reading the comments, of course I have some to share. Don't use PVC. It won't cool the air like the copper will. I see you are in Pa. a cooler climate. If the wall is cement block and stays cooler than the ambient air, securely mounting the pipe to the wall will act as a heat sink. Otherwise use unistrut for a air gap.

Excellent Job ChopMan! Learned a lot from your informative and entertaining video - nice production! I recently installed a Kobalt 2 Stage 60 Gal 175psi compressor and investigating the best options to add and methods to use to make it operational. You've inspired me to follow your design, learn to sweat joints myself - thank you! A couple of unrelated questions; your blacktop project table with the holes in it - please post details and a review of it, and please discuss your sand blaster cabinet. I just subscribed to your channel and will see if you have already addresses these in the meantime. Again, MANY THANKS!

Have you ever considered connecting the manifold dryer/cooler between the compressor and the tank? That would keep the air in the tank cool and dry. Better for the tank. Add filters after the tank.

Gib Clark The trolls usually offer exactly zero back to the world. Anyone making a real contribution or actually putting themselves out there will approach in an entirely different manner. Or more simply put - I’m not going to let someone else’s insecurities get me fired up. There is too much living to do. As for your set up - I 110% agree! Use what you have. There are plenty of ways to address this and almost any need. One of the larger problems today is the tendency for everyone to seem to think they are the only person who knows anything. It’s lasted you 3 years and probably will serve you well for MANY more. 🔥👍🏼🔥 Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Super appreciated 🙌🏼🙇🏻

Thank you! SUPER appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave a comment. For me the copper was the only way to go. I just like the look of it and there was no doubt it would work. As for the Rhino Cart that table is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. My welding/fabrication game jumped up a few notches with the addition of that table. I did a video on it too right here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKW6gIRpf8mjqc0 You can actually buy it DIRECTLY from Strong Hand through Amazon and get the free shipping, which your gonna want because its right around 500LB. Nice soldering! I haven't dealt much with solder, but I know it can be tricky to get just the right amount! What is the purpose of spraying the paint can upside down and then setting on the table upside down? An old trick of some sort? I apologize if you have already answered this in the comments. Awesome video. I dig the enthusiasm in all of your videos!
@HouseofChop
@HouseofChop 4 жыл бұрын
Kuehl Enterprises Thank you. Appreciate your kind words and taking a few minutes to comment. 🔥👍🏼🔥 I always set the can upside down between coats just to keep the paint mixing in the can. When I pick it up and give it a shake for the next coat it will upset the way it was settled in the can. Just a method I got to after realizing the paint coats much better with a super thorough mix. As for spraying it upside down it clears the nozzle so it won’t clog between coats. Just give it a spray inverted till the paint stops and you get a puff of propellant. 😉

Thank you. Seriously appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. 🔥👍🏼🔥 I’ve had that compressor for about 2.5 years now and it’s been great. Plenty of air even when I’m running the blast cabinet and it’s quiet. They have since upgraded it a bit and it’s a little bit more powerful. If space is a consideration or if you must have in in your work area like I do I’d say it’s worth serious consideration.

Thank you! It works great. I’ve blasted, painted a truck, did product runs with the plasma table and the system hasn’t let me down yet. The 45s at the top were just a aesthetic choice. Some have argued that it might flow better. I really doubt with all the 90s in the system that’s the case.

Good soldering job. Any leak for first timer? You could run all the bottom of each 3 exchausts out by combine to one out with one valve on the bottom of the pipes.. Will it works too?
@HouseofChop
@HouseofChop 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No leaks now for over 2 years. You could run the pipes anyway you’d like so long as the air is forced to travel the full distance… no shortcuts for the air. 😉🙌🏼
