Great video was curious though... PVC not an option? burst pressure on sched 40 is almost 900 psi with operating pressures approx. 280psi, double the scroll's operating psi, fantastic soldering, nice and clean.... are you sure that was your first time soldering 😇 keep up the great work... bravo 👏, just ordered a scroll for myself, anything i should be aware of? maintenance tips etc... regards...😁
@HouseofChopКүн бұрын
Thanks for watching and the awesome feedback. The PVC question is one of those that will cause a comment section to light up with insane amounts of keyboard warrior knowledge. They say that PVC gets brittle over time and can turn into a shrapnel sending murder machine when filled with compressed air. I’m personally not sold on the idea that some how PVC and air don’t mix but I guess if it did burst it could get exciting. I went with the copper solely as a water free experiment in soldering. Seemed like a great project to dial the skills in and test without having to risk the evening shower. 😁 If I did it again I might just give PEX a shot at it. Cost effective, easy to work with and if it did burst no collateral damage. As for the scroll it continues to be a rock solid machine and they have upgraded the snot out of it since I bought mine so I imagine you will be quite happy with your purchase. I’ve always done the maintenance at the recommended intervals but other than that it hasn’t required a thing. Good luck!

Are you using pulse on the tig when you tack parts together? Almost sounds like a mig.
@HouseofChop2 күн бұрын
That little machine has a tack feature that makes best use of the electrical wave and as a result makes that noise. It’s not necessary but at the time I was making the video I was playing with the feature to understand it’s best use.

Would 3/8" SS line work for a manifold, I've been using a 3/4" PVC one for about 3 years and time to discard it for safety reasons.

5 years later - have you made any mods to this moisture-removal system? I was a little concerned about the lack of flux until around 2:45. Whew! 😂 PS: I like the T-joint on the first stage and those custom V-joints at the top seem like a wise choice too. Overall, great build! Still curious to hear if you’ve made any other modifications to it though! Thx!

Appreciate the feedback thank you for watching. I haven’t changed a thing since I built it. I’ve done production runs on the plasma table, loads of blasting and shot gallons of paint with this set up. It’s been trouble free, required little maintenance and served my needs perfectly even on some of the most humid summer days. Was well worth the time and money.

How has the soft hose coming from the pump held up? Seems like the air going into it would be extremely hot.
@HouseofChop2 ай бұрын
Still good after all these years. It’s made for that application and you want a rubber hose between the compressor and the hard line. The shaking of the compressor over time would compromise the hard line.
@jimmurphy57392 ай бұрын
I did the air distribution in my garage using 3/4" pex but I'm going to rig up a roll of copper pipe between the compressor head and the tank and submerge it in a barrel of cooling water. (Eventually. The Honey-do list is a bit long at the moment...) Pre-made coils are available from beer and wine making supply shops, or used (beer makers often give up and sell...)

I even had good success with poly pipe. It was from necessity rather than choice. I had poly pipe and couldn't afford copper, and I had to get a job done. Been using it for a year now. All good.

I did something like what you have here. I’ve noticed that the intake port now is rather low and has a tendency for the vacuum to actually suck up the media, so I made the intake for the vacuum port a little higher and solved the issue.

Beautiful work! Potential simplifications for me and others looking to create a similar setup: -rather than make the top loop from 5 pieces: 2 45 degree elbows, 2 short segments, and 1 90 degree elbow, you could make it from 3 pieces: 2 45 degree street elbows that will fit directly into the 90 degree elbow. At the bottom, same strategy, replacing the 90 degree elbow with a T fitting, at which point you can either have the ball valve and drains continue at a 45 degree angle or fit another 45 degree street elbow to make the drains parallel to the runs.

Is it better with cutting oil, for blade durability? How about modeling some hearing protection?
@HouseofChop7 ай бұрын
Did a bit about ear protection in the video. I do have plugs in they are skin tone so they are hard to see. These blades are designed to cut dry never tried to oil one and see if there is an advantage. Would be an interesting video to see a A/B test on blade life. For my purposes the clean cut saves time and mess.

@@HouseofChop Ok cool, thats where i'm at on mine as well. Just bought the dust collection system and planning moving the suction side to the left like you did.
@HouseofChop8 ай бұрын
@@chargerman426Good luck with it. It’s definitely worth your while and will save you a whole lot of filters and keep performance up if you add a “Dust Stopper” or “Dust Deputy” between the vacuum and the cabinet. When you move the pickup to the left I don’t believe you need to get a elaborate as I did. I figured out just getting it on that side and low should do the trick after I did some more testing. I personally like the Dust Stopper because if it’s tight form factor. Here’s a link www.dustopper.com/pro/
@chargerman4268 ай бұрын
@@HouseofChop Interesting that you kept a dust deputy type product in line as well... I was moving to the eastwood dust collector set up to get away from my dust deputy and shop vac set up.
@HouseofChop8 ай бұрын
@@chargerman426The Eastwood vacuum is basically a shop vac with a much stronger pull. Still has a filter and the fine dust in the cabinet will clog it quick. I found with the Dust Stopper in line the performance of the vacuum wasn’t encumbered by the filter getting loaded up as quick. In addition to that it’s a whole lot easier to just dump the pail when needed rather than the whole trap door setup on the Eastwood vac.

So, i got a B60 few month ago and been playing with it. If you want less dust try steel grit media. It is heavy so it falls down fast and the only dust you have is the crap you blasted off; not the abrasive itself. Also, that gun comes with 1/8th jet, going up will speed things up if you have the compressor hp for it.
@Darren-m9r8 ай бұрын
Great job, machine seems work great. Getting rid of dust is main thing. The pattern on the spray has got me wondering. . Seemed really small, like should have blown the battery tray out on both sides in about 4 minutes . Maybe it was my setup. A man who use to blast carnival equipment showed me how build it. Been 20 years now. Great job. I may get one. Can’t bring myself to buy harbor freight. No offense to anyone (except harbor freight ). Yes they got lifetime replacement. If I was the type who does t mind driving 50 miles to trade my tool in every week or every other week

Great video, a couple of things I have recently done, 1. Powder coat the inside white, 2. High output LED flood light, and 3, removed the glass, welded studs for glass mounts for faster glass swaps, then thin piece of plexy, new glass, then plexy sandwitch and change the plexy out every couple of jobs. That said, the large vent in the rear right (looking into yours) is it open to the outside? Mine is closed, with the shop vac dust collector it is almost dustless inside the box with use.
@HouseofChop9 ай бұрын
Those sound like great upgrades. I’ve been contemplating getting some more light in there. The vent on the back is about 1/3-1/2 open on mine and it seems to flow best there and keep the dust down.
