Its function is to keep the temperature at a certain level. So that the temperature is not too low or too high. If it is damaged it must be replaced. Otherwise the temperature will rise. It can be operated without it, in which case some modifications are required, which is not possible with all air compressors. Hope you understand.

Atlas Copco 200 psi working temperature I don't know, but Atlas Copco Air Compressor has warning temperature 110°C and Shutdown temperature 120°C. Working temperature is between 90° - 100° C.
