Hi Sarah! Always fun to see you using air dry clay! If you are interested, there's a really great book by Hildegard Gunzel called, "Creating Original Porcelain Dolls: Modeling, Molding and Painting" that contains great tips about sculpting faces. Hello, I've enjoyed watching some of your videos watching you sculpt. I've been trying to work with Das clay a little bit now to create plant pots, however the clay is going get all over your hands though that part I don't care about. But what is troublesome is that the clay coating your hands will dry out and become flaky, but the dried clay on my hands in turn starts to affect how I can sculpt. I have to stop, go wash that clay off, which isn't quick before i can resume working with the clay.
@RedRockingBird Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks, yes washing hands after the messy bit I recommend in a lot of my videos, it’s part of the creative fun, once the majority of the clay is sculpted I find it’s just part of my hand that gets clayey, how about keeping a damp old cloth near you and keep on wiping them. I LOVE clayey hands, who else here does???
@appleoneill5135 Жыл бұрын
I agree. There is something soothing about clayey hands! Great tutorial ❤
@Plantsandtoyhorses Жыл бұрын
@@RedRockingBird sure I could keep a wet wash rag near by. I don't mind my hands getting covered in the clay, but when it dries on my hands, it seems to start pulling moisture from the clay I'm working with. So I will have a dish of water and keep dipping my hands in it to wet the clay on them. :)
@RedRockingBird Жыл бұрын
@@Plantsandtoyhorses hi, ok just don’t want to add excess moisture, add as little as possible, yes the flakey clay will effect the finish, enjoy

Have you ever made a artist's paint palette with airdry clay. I see others have done but am concerned the watercolor will stain or soak through. Do you have recommendations as to what varnish or finish would be most appropriate? Your instructional videos have been very inspiring :)
@RedRockingBird6 ай бұрын
Yes I have, if using something like resin you can use a sealant like mod podge first and then the resin so the resin just sits on the top rather than soaking into the clay
@karent17176 ай бұрын
@@RedRockingBird thank you. for the suggestion. What brand or type of resin would I use. I just today purchased the only package I could find of airdry clay in our small town. It is Crayola brand. So I am now experimenting. Very excited to try this out. I have never used clay.

Vraag , is er een risico dat de klei los komt vh zilverpapier nadien ? Vraagje 2 , de achterkant van uw werk is de startkarton …blijft dat zo of bewerkt u ook als afwerking ??? @@brigittaelegeert1470 no problem, when the clay is fully encased like this it is not come away from the tin foil now, if you drop it and bang it then yes breaking could happen. I do the same to the front and the back, all is covered in foil and clay. And yes, varnish the face or similar to protect, you could also paint it first and then varnish. Thank you and best of luck
