First off, she never did nor actually planned to do anything. She is expressing how she feels about the situation. If you ever worked in a post partum setting, you'd know that shaken baby syndrome is a real thing and something that many people experience. She did the right thing by recognizing her malicious thoughts and removing herself from the the situation. Secondly, I understand how scary this can sound to parents or anyone that has never worked in this environment, but these feelings are normal and thats why we learn about it and have to teach parents about it. Just because she's a healthcare worker doesn't mean she's immune to normal human reactions. Sometimes removing yourself for a little bit allows you to cool off and return to the situation level headed. No one wants to hurt babies, she was expressing her frustration and unfortunately someone who doesn't understand took that and sent it out to the public who also doesn't understand. Her only mistake here was posting something. She should've just reached out to her team to cover down for her while she cools off. Also, the sugar water thing is not malpractice. Its called sweet ease and it is used to help keep the babies calm. Its used during procedures or any kind of exam where you need the baby to be quiet. You put a glove on, dip your pinky in the sugar water and the baby uses you pinky as pacifier. You can do the same thing with an actual pacifier if you have one. Its not like they're pouring sugar water down their throat, its just a finger or pacifier dipped. You may have to reapply every so often, but either way, she made an exaggeration and its not "malpractice".
