I had a few soldiers AWOL in my unit while stationed in Korea that left for Thailand. One got caught and the other still “missing.” This dude was in a unit that I had connections to still so I know a couple things. He was your usual POS entitled new soldier, making a bad name for American military. He told the flight attendant while boarded that he forgot his passport. That’s how he “escaped” from custody. He needs at least 15 years at Leavenworth. I also did the tour he did and I can see how he ran for it. It’s not hard. I’m sure it is now that lol. The guards are mostly there to protect us from North Koreans gabbing us or S Korean soldiers when visiting the literal line. The guards also protect any N Korean defectors from N Koreans when they try to escape. Very few idiots go the other way. But, it does happen. Just been many years. Bro thought he could live like a king. Some defector get that life. But they are racist as hell and only want the “best” defectors. Not some no nothing private like him 😂.
