@@Shawn-mo6dh That really was a difficult character. He felt his suffering justified defiance of all justice systems - and who could blame him one bit? And his demise, when we see how Hannibal had pulled the strings for who-knows-how-man in Mason's household. Such a cleverly designed set of characters.

"GET OFF MY PLANE!" Fun Fact: Gary Oldman's performance earned him the nickname "Scary Gary" during production. However, he did not stay in character between the scenes. Wolfgang Petersen called the filming experience "Air Force Fun" because of how comedic and genial Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford would be off-screen. He also said that Gary Oldman would suddenly return to the menacing film persona instantly. Harrison Ford has since named Gary Oldman as his favorite on-screen nemesis. Also, Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman are actually hitting each other during their fight scenes.

This is actually great too hear. Too often you hear stories of actors being terrible to each other in the name of being "Method." Call me crazy, but I feel like acting should be, you know, an act. Hearing that he would flip back and forth between genial and menacing makes me like him ore as an actor.

I don't know why anyone is talking about this. Cassie talking about what she would need to jump out of the plane and being punched in the face is absolutely hilarious. Her nerdy analogies and out of mind thinking brings me so much joy watching her reactions. Love your content keep up the great work.

The way they do it in military planes ordinarily is you're attached to a wire, which pulls the chute for you when you jump out. So perhaps for Cassie they could have rigged up something similar and she wouldn't need to be conscious to pull her own chute. I wonder if she'd rather zip line between two planes or jump out of one with a parachute, though. I have gone skydiving and it's a lot of fun. I did an accelerated freefall course and got my A license. Skydiving is actually really, really safe. It's only once a skydiver moves up in the skills and experience and starts to get cocky that accidents happen. Usually doing crazy stunts like wingsuits and water landings, that's when people actually get killed. I have no desire to do that kind of stuff, but I'm happy to do ordinary jumps a few times in a day every now and again, get some freefall minutes, and fly a nice big canopy.

This brings back so many memories. And one I had to share. I went to see this movie in theaters with my VERY pregnant sister and her, then fiance (now ex-husband). My sister always had a small crush on Harrison Ford, but that's not the point of this story. Keep in mind, this was a time before everyone had cell phones. It was after midnight by the time I dropped them off at their place, and I went home myself. Before I could get home, her water broke, she couldn't call me to get them, so she called our older brother to pick them up to take to the hospital (they didn't have a car). So my brother picked them up to take them to the hospital. I go home to find a message on my answering machine telling me what happened. To meet at the hospital. My niece, now 25, was born that morning on July 29, 1997. My sister jokes that the movie (and Harrison Ford)and her anxiety during the movie induced labour. After watching your own anxiety and reaction, I thought you'd like this little memory of mine

Die Hard on a plane is a pretty accurate description of this movie. Yes there are plot holes and portions that are over the top and dramatic...but dammit this is a fun movie. I always felt so bad for William H. Macy's character. He was one of the most loyal guys there, is willing to sacrifice himself to save everyone, but still gets shot in the end. So glad you wound up watching this because it's just a really fun movie that is more intense than you'd think.

I have a fun story about Liesel Matthews(Alice). Liesel Matthews was born Liesel Pritzker. In the early 2000s, I worked for a technology consulting firm, and one of our clients was Liesel's mother, Irene. I had to go to Irene's house one day to help her with some computer problems and, while I was working at her mom's desk, Liesel came out of her room and sat down on the couch near the desk. She then got up to go make herself some breakfast (IIRC she was going to make an omelette). I introduced myself and she asked me if I would like her to make me something while she was in the kitchen. I said "no, thank you". When I got home that day, I told my wife that I should have said 'yes'. Then I could always tell people that a movie star made me breakfast once.

Gary Oldman is a brilliant actor, and a chameleon. He looks different in every movie he is in. Among his many amazing roles are Beethoven in "Immortal Beloved", Detective/Commissioner Gorden in the "Dark Knight" Trilogy (Christopher Nolan Batman movies), Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour", Emannuel Zorg in "The Fifth Element", George Smiley in "Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy" and, of course, Sirius Black in the "Harry Potter" movies. And that only scratches the surface. I also like Harrison Ford in this film. It serves as a sort-of third Jack Ryan movie. You talk about how you loved The West Wing (I do too). When it comes to fictional Presidents, mine is David Palmer as played by Dennis Haysbert in the first three seasons of 24 and briefly in seasons 4 and 5. As for Air Force One, it is a great movie. My favorite thing about this movie, though, is the score composed by the late and legendary Jerry Goldsmith. He was one of the best film composers and I have been watching movies he composed the scores for as far back as I can remember. Makes me want to listen to the Air Force One score right now. And speaking of President Bartlett from The West Wing, if you have never seen it, watch the 1983 film The Dead Zone, based upon the book by Stephen King. The same actor, Martin Sheen, plays Gregory Stillson, who is running for president, but he is a very bad person, downright evil.

That Air Force One highjacking sequence is one of the very best I've ever seen in any action movie. If this movie has any weakness it's that it kind of peaks there. Yeah, the rest is still very good, but that sequnce is absolutely best. Oh, and I'm glad to hear you love the West Wing. It's a fantastic show. Just an FYI... That plane to plane transfer of people is actually possible and has been done many times. Heck, special ops guys get snatched off the ground by a passing plane regularly. They weren't going as fast as you think. Probably around 200 mph. The movie is definitely exaggerated for theatrics but that particular part is real enough.

@@HorribleGamingFun It's the Fulton Recovery System, and actually it's been removed from all active MC-130's by this point. I flew the planes that had the hardware (a few HC and MC-130's) back in the 90's, but even at that time all of the "moving parts" of the system had been removed.

Actually, while the planes flying in close formation was real (I was stationed at Eglin when they filmed this, and knew some of the MC-130 crew that did the flying), the actual connection (not possible--AF1 doesn't have a rigging hook at the door like that), and the "zipline" transfer (CGI) was movie magic. I can't say actual aircraft to aircraft personnel transfer has never occurred, but in my time in Air Force Spec Ops I never heard of it actually being performed. You are right, there used to be a mission for surface to air recovery of personnel (Fulton Recovery System), but it was disabled as of the early 90's, and no longer exists on any active duty aircraft as far as I am aware. I did fly a few birds that had the nose and the infrastructure from 91-96, but the "moving parts" had all been removed.

@@stephenzepp6536 Cool. How much time did you serve on AF1 in the 90s? Interesting fact for you... The first plane to plane in flight transfer of passengers was done in the 1920s.
