Air intake manifold flame preheater. Perkins 4.108 diesel engine. Pre-Heater Glow Plug. Cold start

Air intake heater, also known as a grid or manifold heaters are used to pre-heat the combustion air to the required temperature to aid cold starting. Used as an alternative to glow plugs to provide quick starting in cold weather. Also, can be used to reduce white smoke (cold emissions), engine wear and battery/fuel consumption during start-up.

Acá en Argentina para arrancar el Perkin usábamos un hisopo con gasoil lo prendimos fuego y con eso y un poco de suerte arrancaba, estoy en una zona de mucho frío, Patagonia Bariloche.

Hi, I’d buy it from parts4engines UK, original spares: www.parts4engines.com/perkins-4-108-glowplug-thermostart/ However, this is a 12V version. In military vehicles voltage was 24v Regards

@@BarcelonaAustinA35 got a new one from a tractor supplier near by :) Do you know where I must take the power from, so it stops heating when the engine is running? And what size cable is recommended?

@@FUNKINETIK sorry, I just replaced it with the old one. But it do not heat at all. I did not have the time to solve it. Pls let me know if you can figure it out :)

@@dennisfriborg4803 hi Dennis, thanks for replying. I’ve never had the cold start in operation so starting from scratch. I’ve got an igniter plug fitted ready to the air intake. I think I’ve figured out how the little fuel reservoir I’ve bought needs to be ‘plumbed’ in, off the fuel leak off return. So got to find out how the electrics to the igniter is wired. I’m about to ask on the Bedford CF.org forum for some help, so will let you know when I get more info.
