The reason why that shoe was worn during the 1995 playoffs was because the NBA fined MJ $5,000 (i think) for not adhering to the team dress code policy. Starting in 1989 all Chicago Bulls players have to wear black shoes everytime they play in the postseason. Jordan wore the test run 11 concords prematurely and when he paid the fine he decided to wear Penny's Air Flight One to avoid another fine which pissed off Nike officials. After that they made him this "Space Jam" colorway so MJ can continue wearing the 11's for the rest of the series.

That white line has been standing out to me for the last several months. It detracts from the clean black upper. On the flip side, it's good to know that it's because of the real leather grain. I just wish the grain was dyed black. Thanks for calling it out by the way, you're the only one I've seen thus far. As far as the name, it's combined. Space Jam is what people have been wanting and identifying with. The other side is the OG fanatics of the game and not so much the movie collaboration.

Great review! Thanks for letting all the young kids know how the OG 11s used to look. When these came out in '95 I was 19 and I remember that these actually sold out in Orlando from size 10 thru 13. Came back a week later to my local FTL and they had plenty of pairs, CRAZY!

First off Nightwing i'm a big fan as we have the same tastes in sneakers. I was raised in the 90s in Philly and have seen ogs in person and have had them also. So Keep doing ya thing homie and I'm fan of your reviews. Now....... i'm tired of all these dumb nicknames for jordans. Does it even matter what they are called? i remember back when i was a kid they were just called the black jordan 11s or clear bottom playoff if i can remember, there was no gimmick nicknames for j's, then when the movie came out everyone was calling them the shoes he wore in spacejam, so that's when the nick name Spacejam was associated with the shoes. So by 2000 / 2001ish if i can remember people officially started calling them space jams. To all the people complaining on what they should be called........ They are simply SpaceJams. I would refer to these as Playoff Editions as he wore them in the 95 playoffs and the film wasn't released until November 96, and the shoes had 23 on them in the movie

SPACE JAMS FOR LIFE! I've been waiting for these to release again since I now can afford to buy a pair (possibly two c'mon they are toooo clean). Adding the Space Jam movie from my childhood I can't believe them to be anything other than Space Jam 11s. sweet...high cut patent leather is back!! but if they removed the toe guard and went back to the og way of contruction of the shoe we might see a lot of wrinkles in that toe box area tho. the shape of the 2000 retros were that of the originals or very close to them.

Hey Nightwing, Love your videos and insight. Breaking some knowledge for ya, when Jordan retired, they started the Team Jordan,to keep the Jordan brand relevant and selling. That year you notice there where a lot of Jordan 10 PE. So before Jordan rocked these in Space Jam and thus wearing them early in the playoffs, they where going to be Orlando Magic worn by Team Jordan player Nick Anderson.

just based on my understanding of the XI "space jam" colorway its a Player Exclusive from the 1995 playoffs, before Space Jam released or before they had started filming. We even have video on youtube of Ahmad Rashad talking about the Black Patent leather model and how he switched to them from the Concords. The camera shows an up close zoom of the 45 on the back.....my conclusion is that they are PE Playoff Jordan XI's. Not Space Jams. 1. 45 on the back 2. Made by Tinker for him to stop getting fined in the 94-95 playoff series 3. Space Jam colorway is with 23 on the back

One thing i like that jordan brand did was the jumpman back facing the toe. This is a good chance this will happen to future releases for og colorways. But i hope jordan brand doesnt do what they did to this og colorway and turn it to a pe type. Where it wasnt the way it was back in 96 to the public

Regardless of stories, they did this shoe right. Jumpman facing the correct direction, and shape of the shoe is leaning forward. No more banana 11s! Those two details were the most important for me.

BTW id consider the OG soles to be a milky blue, not blue tinted. XI game pics from 95 have a milky blue outsole, both the PE XI and the Concord XI do. The only blue tinted sole is the 96 Columbia

Funny thing is the fake manufacturers have been making shoes more up to the old Jordan standard than Jordan Brand is. Jordan Brand been getting away with selling their loyal customers fakes of their own legacy sneakers.

That is so true. Smh Jordan brand. Many people just buy from Jordan because of the hype. So Jordan just makes a lot of money even tho they don't put their best effort into making the shoes. Companies should put 100% into making the best quality products while still making the product on the cheaper side. Also with a higher quantity. Yes it will cost the company to spend more, but if they make more of a product they will eventually make a profit.

Looking forward to these to drop. to address your question, the NBA uniform/ dress code policy until in recent years was, all players on a team needed to wear the same color shoes. so, with the Bulls players wearing black and MJ prematurely debuting the Concords, he was in violation of the policy. Which was kinda funny since MJ was the reason why the Bulls would wear black kicks in the playoffs...and white in the regular season. He's also the reason why the Bulls wore black socks in the playoffs as well. (also the reason why I wear nothing but black no show socks since '96.)
