I heard in an interview with the designers that MJ was more involved in the 39 than in previous models. He wanted a shoe that felt like you shouldn’t have to break them in, and that it was inspired by his cross step. Which begs the question: why would they not add a shank plate? What’s the logic?

I've been hooping seriously since 2013 and have collected every Jordan flagship since the XX8. The buck might just stop here. The 37s tore up my toe skin and I just haven't been getting enough run in the 38s due to work load. It's been a good run overall.

The Air Jordan line was/is of course a performance shoe just like other signature sneaker lines. But what made Jordan brand into the massive success that it is, is it's use in the lifestyle sneaker market. In the 80's and 90's and 2000s, it became a luxury fashion statement. These days hoopers play in Kobes and rock Jordans for casual everyday off court stuff. This is Jordan Brand just admitting that 1, it's mainly older guys (Gen X) who will buy these and 2, use them mainly for just walking around. So comfort is key and performance is not so key.

I’m just getting back into basketball shape and I’m in my 40’s, so as a shoot around shoe I’m interested, but I still find it disappointing that it’s so inconsistent. I’ll probably still get them once they’re discounted but they’ll be for light workouts. I’m not totally convinced they’re not holding out on us because the 40 is a milestone number.

Hey Zach!! How do you remove the insole for Jordan’s signature line basketball sneakers? ⁉️ I have the 32 Low, 35 Low, 36 Low, 37 Low, 38 Low on the way…….and ALL of the insoles are super strongly glued down and/or stitched down. QTNA!! ‼️ Especially for this Jordan 39 because I’ll definitely have to replace this insole with a carbon plated insole to give the shoe much more rigidity and stability… I was thinking to use a heat gun, but I don’t want to compromise the glue composition in other parts of the shoe and/or the zoom units in the midsole.

I got the black ones once they came on stock, they look okay but they amazed me with comfort, I’m using them daily now not for ball rlly, played a few times, basically they demand u to be stable they aren’t my favourite shoe for balling they r just not stable but, they r one of the most comfortable if not the most comfortable shoe ever, I have and owned all infinity runs and gt cut 3 and imma be honest this is way more comfortable, my only problem is these get rlly warm I don’t rlly care but if u do keep that in mind. Honestly if u want comfort and a shoe for daily use these r better than boosts, infinity runs and thus literally the best option for comfort, the fit and stuffing for the ankle and tongue r perfect for me, I have a higher arch and it still is perfect, I didn’t have blistering issues but that’s me, my conclusions is I wouldn’t recommend them too much for bball unless stability is not a consideration for u, but for daily use these r fire 🔥🔥🔥u will not get better comfort, it crashes the comfort of any pure zoom x shoes. That my opinion.

Thanks for your honest, straightforward review. So complete, it takes into account so many aspects. Keep them so. Aside from the disappointing anonymous meh design I cannot understand why no midfoot reinforcement support system, why no lateral support. I see that lately the bball shoes (Nike included) converge with running shoes. Perhaps for costs reduction but they start lacking features. It's disappointing for a flagship shoe to have these shortcomings. I won't be buying these not even at clearance. Nike bring better products, innovative as they used to be once. Not same recycled idea everywhere (some foam, thin zoom and a mesh top). I remember when buying Jordan 21,22,23 and were impressed with quality, materials, fit, performance. Truly a flagship shoe. Now is underwhelming. I was amazed to see some emerging brands (Chinese for example) that bring more innovation and features. I still have the 38s, they are a bit better looking but the performance and wow factor are not what it used to be (only synthetics, most squeaking shoe I ever had from 90s 2000s 2010s).

Would’ve loved to grab these. At this rate, I’ll just have to buy a Jordan 38 low on sale if I want a new pair to hoop. The summer releases from Nike have been so weak

They could have made no shank work but the combination of no shank, high off the ground and no outrigger seems like bad design decisions. They turned the knob too far in the direction of comfort and needed to make the zoom x too thick it seems Are they doing actual testing and feedback from hoopers? This doesn’t seem like it. The shoe seems like it wasn’t designed for lateral agility

i think a top loaded Zoom unit is always best, specially if its this big.

In your opinion how do these compare to Nike kobe nxt 360?

I think people who buy Jordan’s to play ball in already buy insoles for reinforcement and stability, since most shoes compromise something which is fair since we all have different needs but all want to look good and even pros keep certain insoles and swap shoes around them for these reason. Trust me you don’t want every possible thing put into a shoe it won’t be efficient it will be heavy and other issues including and most important the price will be double or triple look at li-Ning very premium does a lot for their followers but at 3-5 hundred usd and at retail. Learn what is best for you like a pro and learn to compromise

Jordan main line is the biggest hit or mid ever :D the 34/35/36 were nice - the 29 was the best shoe ever, but currently i am disappointed :D

I'd be curious to see if the PE version has a shank in it. Hard to believe NBA players would play in these when they are so unstable.

I tried the black ones and it is very interesting for sure mine did not seem to fold in half I went TTS at 9.5 and it did give width issues like all bb shoes for me I’m W and splay W and it was still tough and my inner and outer most toe still felt the lack of width I think if I keep breaking them slow they will conform and I won’t need my normal 10. The mid foot and toe box are very stable and I was able to keep balance moving fast but the heels and the foam under foot do feel very soft, I might not use insoles cus they already lack size for me

I don’t think there is going to be a “low” version if the show. That’s just what I heard in another review.
