I had the original ones in 1990 in the grape and green - I was the first kid in my jr. high in Colorado with them (also first to have the white cement 89's in 7th grade!). I feel like all the naming came much later. Back then we just called them the white ones and the black ones, the green and purple ones, etc. We also never called them the 3's, 4's, 5's, it was always about what year they came out, the 88's, the 89's, the 90's...

I prefer the Muslin’s, but these are nice too. For me, the Muslin 5s and the 2s are the best AJ x Off White collabs. After that I’d probably go with the 4s.

I’m 53 years old from Little Rock Arkansas and the “Coke “ reference is spot on, if you’re from the South every soft drink is referred to as a Coke but since I wasn’t into Jordan’s back then I don’t know what they called the original 5s but as always great video. I love the content 👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾

With me being the same age as Jordan in Charlotte N.C. we just called one the white Jordan’s and the black Jordan’s. I purchased my 5’s at Flight 23 when they came out unfortunately they didn’t have my size. His brother Larry got me a pair from Footlocker in Shelby NC. I was unaware that Footlocker had exclusive rights to Jordan’s shoes.

From Louisiana and I can vouch for Jodi’s “Coke” reference! As for what we called those back in 1990…in New Orleans we just called them Jordans. They were either “the white ones” or “the black ones.” However, Chris you’re right about “The fire reds” - I def remember them being called that. I don’t remember people giving them nicknames until the 7s and then they were the “Bugs Bunnies”

When I was ten I wanted the fire red 5's so bad... that netting looked so cool to me...I begged my dad... by the time he finally said yes and took me to Big 5 to get them... they were gone... instead they had another pair... the Carmine 6's. I love 6's cuz they were my first... but 5's hold a special place in my heart as the pair that got away.

In Tennessee my Family would simply just say they wanted a “Cold Drank” and being raised in Dayton Ohio, we said the universal word….”POP”. Coke is universal too in Tennessee especially in the 80’s and 90’s, the new generation doesn’t use the same slang because of many of the transplants from other states and regions. I grew up on an island in British Columbia Canada. I was born in 1977, so I was in junior high when the Jordan 3, 4, 5 , were being released. Back then we just called them the "white' or "black" pairs. Nobody had them. if local stores got them in it was only a couple pairs and they would be gone instantly. We only really ever saw them in magazines or on jordans foot. The Sail 4s are the best pair, and the black off white air max are 2nd.

1990. I was in college, I got the black pair and my roommate got the white. I retired my white cement 4s soon after. We just called them the 5s.? The newest and best ones yet! (In 1990...) I didn't get another jordan until the 10s.

Good stuff as always Chris and Jodi! No issues with seeing a review of an older sneaker, especially for one that's significant and among the more notable pairs of a collaboration lineup. For me, top 3 Off Whites are the OG Ten Blazers (super clean and wearable, design just really speaks to me), the black Vs (black metallic Vs have always been my favorite Vs and I really like the slimmed down look as well), and then maybe the original 3 pack of dunks (the remixed BTTYS colorways are too good). Honorable mention to the 50 dunks as well because that's the only pair I've got (Lot 5 which is blue overlaces and light yellow tongue), they're pretty nice even if the whole concept was mostly uninspired.

I’ve had these twice. Lovely shoe. Only thing about them, and I had the same problem with the Jade Green 5s, that aged outsole is made out of gummy worms. Literally a handful of wears and it’s just shaving away at the heel, for me at least. Seems like if it’s really hot day they get even softer and the concrete really eats at them. I’m not wearing sole protectors, I hate the feeling of a sticker being at the bottom of the shoe so…other than that great shoe, and the rare shoe where all 3 pairs of the laces look great in them and I could never stick with one

With you on not being a fan of the 1 at all but thinking the Presto is 🔥. These kind of videos have a lot of worth too, there’s so much cool sneaker history that new collectors would benefit from being able to check out stuff they weren’t around for. Also it’s cool in general to revisit and deep-dive parts of the collection with newer production on the video and everything. It’s a blast, we don’t need to see only upcoming or hypebeast stuff 👍🏻

I have both Jordan 5 Off-whites and I like this more than the black. I love the the J1 Off-white and I do have one but the J5 are my favorites because they were my shoes I bought back then in the 90s when I was a kid when I visited the USA. I am from the Philippines and I enjoy shoes to wear. In the Philippines we say Coke or Softdrinks which means soda.

5's are the first Jordan that made me fall in love with shoes. I always look to cop 5s and the older I get I want the crazy ones like these or the A Ma Maniere( which I LOVE!!) I just hate that I missed out on the to the point where I got to over pay now and HOPE that they are the real things.

Central Cali here, we just called them silver tongue ‘90s (referring to the year they came out, 4s would be the ‘89s, 6s would be the ‘91s) but my pair were the “black tongue ‘90s”, which we are way over due for a retro with Nike branding on the heel!

My top 3 are Vapormax - love the suede plate over the fly wire eyelets and the extended foam tongue that virgil borrowed from the air max 95. Perfect blend of vintage and modern aesthetics imo. Air Force 1 - love the mesh and I think virgil deserves the upmost props for making an Air Force 1 that actually looks better beat than new. The shape also resembles the 1983 lows way better than the current blocky shape does. Blazers - that giant swoosh, the rip stop on the mid foot and the extended tongue all do it for me. These also look way better once beaten down.

I was 17 in ‘90 and I don’t remember any “nicknames” back then. I wasn’t aware of “nicknames” for the models until retros came into vogue. I will say this, personally, I always called the debut of any model, starting with the “3s,” the “Bulls pair” because they were always mostly white. I would call the black pair the “playoffs” based on the Chicago Bulls adopting the tradition of wearing black shoes during their playoff runs. Even though Mike debuted the black color-ways during the Allstar Games.

I'm From New York in the 90's I just called them Jordan's or reflecters or by number. Fives in Black or fives in white or playoffs fives or in Charlotte hornets colors. Nobody really wore 1's and 2's that much so all the colorways wasn't really a thing. Jordan mostly released a black based pair and a white based pair usually debuted during all star weekend, then something for the playoffs. I don't think the names came into play until the retros came in mid 90's -2000's

Growing up in the East Bay, Berkeley and Oakland, in the late 80’s early 90’s people just referred to the shoes as the “new jordans” and then they were identified by the color. Black and Red Jordans or Red and White Jordans. I had the OG release of these 5’s in 3rd grade and they were just “Jordans” if I remember correctly
