167th C-5 out in Cali..thx for the vid Speedbird...I see these big gooses flying around all the time...never tired of that 4 x TF-39 chorus ;-)

I remember flying Space-A in those all the time as a kid. Sitting backwards in a windowless cabin, climbing what I thought was the most nerve-racking ladders at the time, having to wear ear plugs the whole time, and that smell. I used to think nothing in the world could ever sound so loud.

The Smithsonian Channel has a series on "Mighty Planes" which you can find on the web. I recently saw an episode on the Super Galaxy (with the new engines) making a trip from Dover, Del to Bagram, Afghanistan. These are amazing planes. Thanks for posting, Speedbird (even if it was more than one plane - big deal!)

I love in Texas and these fly daily over head because of a retired air base maybe last than 10 miles away. They are my favorite and sound amazing!

The engines on these big lovely beasties have a sound like no other. The first time I ever heard a C5 flying overhead, thought something godawful was happening. But no...just a beautiful Galaxy saying "Hello"! I love 'em!

The C5 taking off at the end I would recognize anywhere with the blue Stewart Logo. I live across the street from Stewart ANG 105th Int Airport. You can't hear on the phone and your house shakes. The screaming goes on all day sometimes(it did) and fly offs and overs/ some people wanted it rerouted it interferes with the noise level but I said no way I love the path. Its right over your head on take off. Always though they would someday land on my house. LOL I love these C5s. Ride in your car and when its landing its so awesome like on top of your car.

I love it when you hear the whine of those massive TF-39 turbofans it sounds like sirens that sound off at the time it is turning around and ready for takeoff.

Use to work at Eastern Regional airport from 2010 to 2014 where the 167th is based . I loved watching these c-5's takeoff and land there it was quite a sight to see and hear as the tf-39 engines were loud , you had to wear hearing protection working on the flight ramp because of the noise these jets made .

I saw three different aircraft there. Nice video!

I like seeing the C-5's taking off and miss being in the Air Force and getting to work on them. I miss the C-141's even more and wish they was still flying.

idk what the lines on the nose are, but the ones above the windshield are where the in-air refueling hooks up to

Great Vid! I always see these beautiful birds fly in and out of M'burg while on my delivery route...winchester ave meeting with tabler station road is the sweet spot ;0)

Beautiful vid, those old p&w engines are a noise that'll be missed when the C5 M prog is completed. They literally sound like they are tearing a hole through the air. New turbofans have the aural excitement of a household appliance!

There are actually three different C-5s in this video. The first one taxiing in is C-5B tail 86-0012 out of Westover, the second is C-5A tail 70-0452 out of Martinsburg, and the third is C-5A tail 69-0023 out of Stewart. Thankfully, the latter two are now retired and have hopefully been cut up for scrap by now. C-5s have a great sound, but they suck to maintain.

Interesting that three different jets are shown in the video...The Stewart tail that was shown taking off didn't happen in 2013, the last one flew last year. 6012 is here at Dover now

I live like 30 mile from the Martinsburg base. I got to go there a couple months ago. They're an amazing aircraft. Sadly they are getting rid of them and going to C-17 Globemasters.
