I have shot rabbits on this farm for many years but dew to the covid restrictions and lockdown the rabbit numbers have increased so since it was a nice night i went out to see if i could get a few for the pot.
Here in Northern Ireland rabbits are on our general licence as they are considered an agricultural pest and can be controlled all year round, this was done here with the use of a legally held air rifle on land that i have permission to do so on in a legal and humane manner as not to prolong or glorify the death of the animal.

Scope Bushnell Tactical Elite 2.5-16x42
Slugs H&N 21gr .218
Rangefinder Bushnell 1000 Scout

Thank you so much for your video and the time and effort. Your productions are far superior to any of the other hunters especially from S Africa and USA where they have totally unrealistic shooting setups and locations which don't in any way represent what we experience in our fields/woods in the UK. Also your videos show your compassion and ethics and of course some humour and its not just total massacre and unlike them where seldem is game collected for the pot, you pay repect to your fallen quarry and take it home. I have an identical setup to your FX Crown in green laminate but in .25. H+N slugs suit FX's Superior STX barrels and shoot quite accurately. Well done, thanks again and take care.

Brilliant David! I've a Daystate Airwolf 40ftlb model. I've been experimenting with all sorts over the years, but recently tried some different slugs. Of all that I've tried, the H&N are outstanding. They don't look as clean as others on the market, one popular brand in particular, were perfect visually, but just didn't perform. I'm using the 21grn like you in 217. Absolutely lazer accurate out to some astonishing ranges that I wouldn't normally consider. And as you have found, the Strelok app is bang on with the ballistic info! Atb Marc
@HuntersVermin
@HuntersVermin 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah i think that the H&N slugs are coated in a dry lube or something as they do get your fingers dirty but i'm not complaining about how they shoot, like you i have tried a few other brands but i don't think that my gun can fire them fast enough to stabilize them properly.

Great video and some very nice shooting David. The slugs certainly stretch the working range of the FAC air rifle. Based on my experience with a 600 barrel (Impact) you have my sympathies on getting the right tune. Bit of a faff but worth it.
@HuntersVermin

Yeah i just tuned it over the chrony but i had to fit the Huma high flow transfer port to push the slug anywhere near the right speed, a 700mm barrel would really help but i don;t really want a rifle that length.

@HuntersVermin
@HuntersVermin 3 жыл бұрын
I like it, I like the stock it fits me really well it has a great trigger and the safety catch is easily flipped on and off with your thumb, i don't like the extendable shroud but the mk2 doesn't come with that anymore and i know that some don't like all the adjustable power knobs as its something else that might go wrong and it makes the gun more expensive but you can easily set the rifle up for sub 12ft/lb with pellets or 30+ft/lb with slugs which can come in useful at times depending on the job at hand..

Good video David, was watching close to see if you got a wahoo moment when you stepped over that electric fence wire, was waiting for the bunnies to go flying. By the way, do you have access to NSA slugs in Northern Ireland? Was gonna offer to send you a box of the 23 gr .217's I use in my Impact to try. I have a MKII with 600mm Superior light barrel with Huma high flow transfer port shooting 980 fps. Also wondered if you are on the Gateway to airguns international forum here in the USA?

Sorry i've never heard of the Gateway to airguns international forum but i'll look it up. I don't know of anyone in Northern Ireland who stock anything other than the FX slugs which i have tried as well as the 23gr Javelins but with my 500mm barrel i cant get them up to speed except for the 21gr .218 H&N which i can push at 906fps and group the best at 100y. Thank you very much for the offer but i think that if you tried to post slugs to N'Ireland one of us might get into trouble.

@HuntersVermin 3 жыл бұрын
I do like it, it is expensive but you can use it ether with the FTS unit on your scope or on your shotgun with their gun and scope mount which i have been trying lately though it does take 2-3 seconds for the unit to start recording from pushing the button. Everything you need to fit it to different scopes comes in the box though it does take longer to fit as you need to pair it to an app on your phone to help line the cross hairs up. I have the side shot and Firefly 8SE which do a good job and works out cheaper but for some reason i keep going back to the Tactacam. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIXQe3-weMt2bbM

David I spotted you with Giles, acting as his glamorous assistant on one of his videos. I am thinking about buying a FX Crown, VP, Synthetic, .22, FAC. How quiet do you find the factory shroud? I am aware that a you can purchase an adapter to use with an aftermarket 1/2 UNF moderator. Do you think that it would be worthwhile buying a moderator with the gun, whe my FAC is away to put the vacation on? Do you think an aftermarket moderator would make much of a difference to sound. I am thinking about an A & M marksman. Do you know where I can buy one of the adaptation kits for the Crown in Northern Ireland? Another great days hunting!
@HuntersVermin
@HuntersVermin 3 жыл бұрын
Hi ya good to hear from someone near home, you should have come up and said hello as few of the other folks knew who i was anyway. I have a mk1 crown with the extendable shroud which i have extended about 2 to 3 inches to help quieten things down and i'm happy enough with it without an extra silencer and i have my crown turned up to the max for the slugs but moving the shroud will move your zero so once set leave it alone. The mk2 Crown has a fixed shroud and i think comes ready to thread an extra silencer on if needed, you could try McCloys for the adapter as they do sell FX rifles or you could get your RFD to order one from the likes of Sportsman Gun Center as they are the UK distributors.

@HuntersVermin
@HuntersVermin 3 жыл бұрын
I usually use just 6 power for hunting (though i did turn up the mag for the two longest shots to get a better picture on the tactacam) but the gap between the dots is just too big for precise shots and its a second focal plain scope so i just like dialing in the range, it takes a little longer but all i have to do is aim bang on once its dialed in.
