As a middle aged man who has been a lifelong firearm and knife guy since age 5, I am just getting into high powered adult airguns. This PCP variety as I am finding out is a stupid expensive hobby. My first purchase was a Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 in .177 cal. It impressed me with it's power and accuracy. You can jump through NFA Class III $200 license fees and ATF/FBI red tape to get a legal registered suppressor for your .22LR rifle. It takes 4 - 6 months to process. You can also walk into a Wal-Mart, or your favorite gun shop/sporting goods store and walk out with this with no paperwork or questions asked. You are paying dearly for that luxury however, and these guns and their accessories are stupid expensive. A couple grand for a tank and a special high pressure compressor? You can buy a new Marlin Model 60 .22LR rifle for $157.95 and a 500 ct brick of Remington Thunderbolts for $14.95 and walk out of that Wal-Mart after a 4473 and a FBI NICS for a hell of a lot less! A Ruger 10/22 standard carbine is about $210.95 also. So anyways....I am also thinking of getting a PCP air rifle. My research is kinda leading me to a Benjamin Marauder in either .177 or .22 cal. I don't need another "proprietary" caliber like a .25, .30, .35. The purpose of this air rifle is for "survival" and "bug out" situations where a standard firearm would not be the first choice. Ie shooting a rat or some other furry varmint inside your barn. Likewise for stoning a backyard pest in a urban area. As a lifelong firearm guy who lives and breaths it, I often get requests and calls to be a "exterminator" from time to time. Depending on where and when I pick what will be best to use. Fast forward to my new interests in adult airguns. Once I realized these things are no longer 100 - 400 fps toys that keyhole at any distance beyond 7-10 yards, I became interested. These are yet another viable option to have in your bag of tricks. To be clear my first choices to use for shooting varmints and pests are a good old fashioned .22LR rifle. More recently in the last 20 years is a .17 HMR. When you need to get the job done and not drop more money than your used fishing boat cost, these are your best options. I can see several thousand dollars wrapped up in a decent PCP weapon and all the gear you need to go with it. Keep in mind I'm not computer savoy and being a "nerd" or "techy" is not in my vocabulary or interests. I don't bank online and I don't have a smartphone even. My vehicles are a 1965 Ford Mustang and a 2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty. I don't use "gadgets" or technology there either. This is all new to me........ John

As a SCUBA diver I would like to warn you about the danger of putting an air tank vertically. We always lay it down, so it cannot fall over and break off the valve. If that happens you are in big trouble, 300 bar escaping at once is not a joke.

I got a 9L 300BAR carbon fiber tank on Ebay for $125. It has a DIN300 valve and was manufactured in 2010, meaning it's good through 2030 - and it was just inspected in Feb 2016. I bought a $45 fill station adapter with a pressure gauge and I'm good to go. Saved $400 when compared to the tanks from Pyramydair. All kinds of sellers on Ebay selling old fireman tanks and I highly recommend checking them out. Such an upgrade to my hand pump and for less money!

Steve you are awesome and AOA should be very happy with the quality of video you produce. I use to produce, shoot, edit my own TV show a few years back for my local ABC station. I can tell you have become a true professional at shooting and editing your videos. I know how many hours it takes to put something like this together and appreciate every little creative edit and special effect. So congrats on a great production and a very very informative and well thought content. AOA you should be proud of your relationship with this young man. He is doing your right. Congrats to you both and thanks.

T Shooter. Thank you... you make my eyes leak with words like that. Yeah, 14 months ago, when it all began for me, the average video took 40-60 hours total between looking for the right music scores, storyboarding, researching and testing the product, videoing, producing, etc. I kept a log and worked fast to see how quickly I could get each one done. Once I got on solid ground with all the gear, lightings basics, and software, I got faster... only to be self slowed down again as I challenged myself to improve technique and quality with each new production. Is that how it was for you in the beginning? As for this video... guilty as charged. I maxed out my efforts across all fronts and wound up with over 100 hours in it... about killed me, lol. But I feel like the airgun community and AOA deserve my best so there you have it. I'll continue to challenge myself & improve and with any luck, we'll continue to see better and better vids out of the channel. Many thanks for noticing friend. All the best, Steve

+Airgun Exploration & Advancement Channel The leaky eyes are probably just due to eye strain staring at the computer screens! lol. I do not doubt the hours you have put in. Only someone who has sat behind the edit station can really relate to the effort. I use to use Adobe Premier PRO with Adobe After Affects for my special effects. I'm sure they have better vertically integrated the applications since I used them but it was a pretty steep learning curve back then. Learning how to get the most out of the tools is half the battle and you always get better the more you learn and the better your production will look. It is fun though. Seriously though I think you are on par with any professional media production house out there. Actually Disney/Lucasfilm should be taking notice soon! Keep it fun for you, cause we are enjoying your hard work. Timelines are excellent, content is excellent, presentation is excellent, ok you do need to throw in a pretty girl every now and then....your wife busy? lol.

+T Shooter Yeah, learning the cameras and editing software has been challenging for me, won't lie. I could see the vision of what I wanted to do in my mind but didn't know how to get the PC to do it for me, lol... it was the source of more than a few grey hairs. That's all beginning to improve now. It's funny, I look at my work and compare to that of others and think to myself... I suck and have a long way to go, lol. I suppose it's kind of like looking in the mirror. You look different to everyone else than you do yourself. But thank you for liking the direction of the channel and it's productions... the nice words are encouraging. I'm taking the year off to make a go of making AEACs development a full time focus. Hopefully we'll look up in 12 months and there will be something to it. About the pretty girls... noted 😊. Steve

I used the 'oldest' style tire-pump style for all my shooting. You left off the keep lightly lubricated-- all moving parts-- with silicone grease". I used it to practice shooting at elevated heart-respiration to simulate stress. I used to shoot a lot. An awful lot. And I have a brand new in the box Omega compressor. Saving up for another-- two sons. I'm getting the compressors to make shooting easier for my sons-- to hook them on shooting more quickly. Good video. Thanks.

Great video and nice choices of what to highlight and the deliberate choice of changing background music was a good idea between the various options. I was aware of all the products already so to me the real highlight was the omega compressor really, and in particular the short breakdown on expected regular maintenance in operation. That's a thing most other sources of information skim over with just a "low maintenance" statement. It was high up on my wishlist already but based on that and not seeing too much bad rep on them around after they've been on the market a while I'm tempted to look into getting one eventually when it won't mean emptying my entire savings account. So for now the good old Hill handpump it'll be as primary source of compressed air. I often wonder how those daystate compressors hold up against the traditional workhorses in that size category like Bauer compressors which I've seen used for diving and such. Still torn between for example the Omega one or a used portable/semi-portable electric Bauer compressor, both are in about the same price range depending on model and condition for me. I also wouldn't mind the huge Dräger ones at the fire departments that I've seen while there to deal with some IT related trouble of their computers and air quality testing software, I'd love to have even just a fraction of that compressor equipment equipment or stockpile of carbon fiber tanks it's really neat stuff. A first stage compressor which fills up a tank larger than a typical bathtub to a moderate pressure which then gets up to the working pressure of the storage cylinders by the Dräger, those machines in operation are quite noisy but they tend to be in a room of their own a bit away from the fill stations so it's not too bad (when the doors are closed). Being in a room like that is a bit humbling when knowing what kind of energy is locked up in those bottles and fill lines along the wall. When I was there at the time there were about 50-60 tanks in wheeled crates ready to be shipped out after they returned from hydrostatic testing and were refilled there, it's quite a difference from the usual filling setup in a dive shop.
@AEAC
@AEAC 8 жыл бұрын
+Extra stuff Thanks Extra Stuff. I know the Bauer name... it's a good one. But if you check out Coltri's site www.coltri.com/, you'll see that they are everything Bauer is and more maybe. Agreed on being intimidated by the compressor room at the dive shop. I got in & out of there as fast as I could... not to mention it was deafening. Thanks for the comment. Best, Steve

I could tell right now, (min 15:50), the little red knob that presets the pressure set needle on the Omega suercharger, is not going to last very long. It seems his hand is exerting quite a bit of force to set the needle, (shaking like a lot of torque is involved). Little things tend to break over time with situations like that.

I have had my Nomad 2 in for warranty repair after only 9 fills on a Ataman MR2. Nice concept on the Nomad 2 but I don't really trust it for as much shooting/filling as I do. And I have a FX Impact on the way so I am looking for a compressor that may have a better filtration system on it too. The compressor survey has been a good starting point in my research but I am always interested in more information. Bob L

This was a great review for setting-up and using the Omega compressor. Great job. I filled two carbon tanks. However, when I went to fill my new Daystate Red Wolf, I was NOT able to fill the rifle past 162 BAR from either of my NEW Omega carbon tanks. The gauge on each tank read 4500 psi but would only fill the rifle to 162 Bar. The max on the rifle is 250 Bar. I am trying to determine my error in filling or if the bottle on the gun will hold no more than 162 Bar. Hmmmmm

Excellence as always Steve! I love my compressor I have in my basement, it is a game changer and highly recommended for any PCP shooter that can find a way to afford one. I justified mine by looking at the cost of travel and price to fill at my local shops vs the overall price to own and operate my own. The napkin math says at about 100+ refills I will have paid for the compressor. Considering I have already refilled at a rate of twice per month on a 75 cu/ft fiber tank and will be shooting more now that the weather is better it seems very worth it. Plus when I get my local airgun club going I will offer cheap fills for the members as a benefit. Do you have a public Facebook profile for your channel yet? Would love to show off and share pics with you and your followers. Looking forward to the next one...

Steve, I would appreciate your input. I have Omega Supercharger and a Omega 75cf tank. The tank came with fill line that has a restrictor that I removed. I fill my air guns with this fill line. Do I utilize the same fill line to fill the Omega tank or do I have to change the fill line connector to fill a tank?

I purchased the Omega compressor for ease of use as I am 68 years young, and don't have the inclination to use a foot pump. I am sure the foot pump is a handy device to have and have given it some thought, but in the long run the compressor was the best option for me. Refilling other peoples tanks is an open consideration. I ran a dive boat in the British West Indies, so scuba has always been an interest. Located in Central Florida area. Would appreciate any info for PCP clubs or activities in Central Florida area. Cheers

Having just retired from 25 years in the fires service. All fire depts have compressor to fill there SCBA bottles at one of there stations, at least. Stop by with your SCBA bottle and ask for a fill, most likley you will be met with open arms and the crew will love to hear about your "very cool pellet gun". give it a try the worst you will get is an appology as why they can't do it.

@@AEAC I love my bottle pump, but it 's always been slow. I've modified my Omega pump by installing an inlet adapter and using a "pancake" compressor that holds between 90-120 psi. It has increased capacity past the new omega 2 bottle filling compressor capacity. In addition to the "pancake" compressor, seeing that I'm a mechanical engineer and HVAC&R designer, I've added multiple moisture reducing extractors and a final desiccant moisture filter before it enters the Original Omega tank filling pump. These changes have made my original pump work at lower amp draws and at quicker fill times than even the new omega 2 bottle charging 4500 psi air pump. I hope that you can see how we "laymen" can not only re-design things, but also make them more efficient. Please continue your great reviews of air rifles and associated equipment. I just wanted to share with you how things can be enhanced without great costs to those of us in the air rifle world. J.D. Hall
