49:00 The AEAC universe is the center of airgun knowledge in my opinion. I'm into springers and low to mid level PCP's. I've learned immensely from Steve's efforts. Yes, I can dig the forums and spend lots of time talking one on one with the old timers, but as far as bang for the buck, you can't beat AEAC. Thanks for all your efforts Steve. Always looking forward to the next installment. Idec what brand or model is next to be featured. The knowledge is universal. I say it all the time... We're truly living the muscle car era of airgunning. What a time to be alive.

When I turned my air Venturi avenger bull pup in 25 I was setting it up for 33 grain slugs. I had the regulator pressure at 2800. I adjusted the hammer in 1/8 turn increments. In the end the hammer spring was turned in 1 1/8 turns to get the best accuracy. It was amazing at how small adjustments made such a big difference in performance.. Today I have a fx impact m3 compact in 30 caliber coming in. I’m going to shoot slugs in it. I’m glad you put a video up on this. Thank you for posting this video.

Positive update on the Avenger .22 regulator creep. I had three Avengers in a row that had extreme regulator leaks. They were almost identical in the amount and time it took them to creep. According to Air Venturi they were the barrel baffle models that went into the wood stock model but mine were plastic. After three creepers, I am very pleased to say my next Avenger has a stable regulator, nice trigger, and very accurate. This model is without the baffles and has the screw near the receiver that holds the barrel shroud in place. The creepers did not have the shroud screw. Steve, thanks for addressing regulator creep in this video. Looking forward to seeing more.

Yes, more of this with other industry user "experts" content providers, shooters, hunters, manufacturers on different subjects. Some history, some development, some best practices and techniques. Your content is fantastic, but, I think you talking with other shooters brings more perspective to the conversation. Good stuff both you and PJ.

Awsome information given out by two genuine people . Good to listen and see how we do things . Where as you start with the hammerspring low I start with it maxed . I then edge up the reg to be where I want to be . Backing off the hammerspring then until the speed just drops . Only reason is I find it slightly quicker . I also like how you mention you can get hung up on deviation and spread and get it very good but still have poor accuracy. This is so true and something people get to wrapped up on without actually testing all avenues due to poor numbers . Fantastic guys . I will watch the other half later 🔥

Wow loved this! I really like the non knocking of different brands because it so is up to what you “want” to spend! And they all fling lead down range, but how far and fast and adjustable is in the $$$ you can afford and or want to spend. I’ve been along for the long ride. And watched many hours of video from you both and others! Glad you have it in you!! And thanks for your time! So much good info!!

One of the questions was sometimes it's nice to have a simple rifle that doesn't need hours of fiine tuning, thanks to Steve I bought 3 rifles over the years, Gamo Urban, FX Streamline and Air Venturi Avenger, all great rifles but my go to rifle for pesting , plinking is the Streamline, it's so consistent and reliable and it should do it's a $1000 rifle, it also makes my next pcp purchase difficult because it does what I want so well, but I'll probably watch another AEAC video and see another rifle I like.

So much good information here. Steve you have been the BIGGEST influence on what gun I select to buy next. I do not have access to see or hold air guns where I live, so everything I buy is ordered online. Back when you reviewed the Gamo Urban I knew it was the first PCP I wanted to have. Now I own two more and one you have not reviewed. The Benjamin Akela. My first bull pup. The detail you provide is what helps me make my decisions. GRAVELY. Which is another reason why my first high quality air gun is going to be the FX Maverick. I want to learn to tune to the T. We are definitely limited to information when it comes to air guns and what you do Steve us greatly appreciated. I really hope there is many many many more years to come. Hello Steve and P.J., Just like you guys were talking about, I too have no airgun shops anywhere within a reasonable driving distance. It would take a whole weekend to visit the closest airgun shop, probably in Ohio,as far as I know. That being said...had it not been for you, P.J., Matt, Gerard, Tyler, Travis, Giles and a few others, I would have NEVER trusted that 1500+$ would get a competition level airgun with user friendly adjustability. In 2005 I bought a Walter LG 400 FT air rifle, 6-38X56 walther FT scope, steel scuba tank, and a tin of pellets for $3400. I had been bitten by the airgun bug and I was wanting to compete. The problem was....there wasn't any clubs or competitions within 200 miles. Needles to say, I didn't do much competing, except with my wife. Who ,by the way, could shoot better than I a lot of times. Now,since I bought my Dream tact, I have been bitten by the competition bug again. Guess what?...... Nowhere to shoot except over at Minor Hill where the RAW factory is/was. Anyway... I want to start a club of my own here in Clarksville, TN. I live within 12 miles of a military base and could probably get a bunch of those guys involved. I see a bunch of them at the shooting range just a couple miles from my house. Where would I get the information to find out how to be sanctioned or start a club?? Also, where could I get a list of events and rules for RMAC, EBR, ETC? Any information on resources or advice on how to go about getting set up would be very appreciated. I have had a lifelong dream of competing with like minded people in airgun competition since I got my first Daisy power line when I was 8 years old. If there would have been anything available to me back then, I would have already been competing. That was an awesome ask AEAC with you and P.J., by the way! I hope you didn't hurt your wife's feelings because, I enjoy her comic relief when you guys do the ask AEAC together.

Jeff, I would ask Martin at RAW in Minor Hill about how to get started around there. He should be well connected. EBR rules ask AoA. RMAC rules ask UA... or visit their dedicated sights. The rules may be on there. PA Cup is another good one to compete in. Katya is okay, thanks. She'll be back, lol

great video... again. : ) I have a question? when you say when you are shooting in the wind you may have to turn your speed down so the pellet wont corkscrew. So you back off the speed and its shooting great in the wind now. My question is what would the benifits of turning it back up in calm weather just to have to turn it back down when the wind picks up again? Thanks again for all your insight.

The wind has a tendency to destabilize pellets that are moving to fast. If you're getting corkscrew, dial back the speed and it will normally disappear 👍

Some of the long barrel being more accurate comes from hand holding and open sights. I don't hear many ever mention this, the longer distance between the iron or open sights help in accuracy. Also a longer barrel can help stability (counter balance and swing) in off hand shooting, of course in slower lock time longer barrels can hurt accuracy. IMO this is where some of the lingering longer barrel accuracy mantra stems from.

Wow guys. Great info here. Watched more than once to glean as much info as I could out of it. A quick question. I have an Impact MKII with the M3 power wheel. Been having trouble with fliers at lower speeds, (880 fps), w slugs and 700 mm barrel in .25. If I’m going to tune for 950 fps w NSA 38.9 gr what’s the PW starting point? Are you trying to get the target at the highest setting or is there an advantage to going for the target at a lower wheel setting? Thanks and keep this kind of thing going.
@aeacvlog2033
@aeacvlog2033 2 жыл бұрын
It's up to you on how to clock the power wheel, makes no difference except for convenience. Regarding the flyers, check the head sizes. That'll cause em more than anything else... varying sizes that is, or too much speed for the wind conditions... or in the case of slugs, sometimes not enough speed. Steve

What do you guys think about a gun where all the in parts are stainless steel? I understand it would be heavier... but what if you have stainless...brass copper... and cast iron... all at different expansions... throwing all harmonics off? Would 1 alloy stop this? When you work at lower reg pressures... maybe like cast is more porous? Something like that.. just a thought

WOW Great Video! I have a story about my Maverick Compact .22 cal. to tell you. I want to apologize ahead of time for the long post, but a long video deserves a long post.1 I bought mine on black Friday 2020 with one month wait time. I couldn’t do much testing because I live in the northeast, and its winter. Feb. 10th total knee replacement. March 2021 is here, and testing is on. I have the parts to turn it in to a Slug Sniper 700mm bigger tank. Start testing with NSA 23 gr .217, first problem plenum is taking 15-20 sec. to fill sometimes more. FPS 30-40 avg. differences but not all the time. Plenum stops filling, trip to FX. Get back and O-ring clipped from factory FX fixed. It plugged the hole to fill the plenum I was told. Start testing almost same results but a little better. Not good groups 1 1/2” @ 50 yds, 100 yds 3”-4”. Tuned it the way Steve showed, did not work. Checked liner with bore scope, bad liner and I mean bad. Bought new FX STX Superior liner 700mm. FX did send me a new liner, but I didn’t want to wait for them to send me the replacement. Ok, test again, still not good, go through steps from Steve’s tune process, getting better, but still getting fliers all the time. Average fps 30-40, plenum still taking a long time to fill. After $400.00 plus of NSA slugs and days of testing lost track more than a week. I weighed my options; do I trade it in or sell it with saying that I couldn’t tune it and take the loss and feel like I didn’t know what I was doing? Just to let you know I own a MKII 700mm .25 cal that I tuned, and it shoots 1” MOA@100 yds with JSB 33.95gr and own several more pcps. So, what I did was call Ken Hicks and explain to him what was going on, he said to send it to him, and he would see what he could do. He said he had some special things he can do to tune it. Off it went with everything I had for the Maverick, holding back the kitchen sink. He tuned it to shoot the NSA 31.2gr .217 getting a 1 ½” group with me shooting. The plenum filled in 3 sec. or less. I did not care about AVG, STD DEV, or Spread. But of course, all FX owners know is that you must tweak it just a little more. And what I want everyone to do is listen to Steve and PJ when they say turn the spring screw 1/10 of a turn, they mean it. I turned the screw out just 1/10 of a turn and now it shoots a 7/16” to 1/2” @ 100 yds with that group I had to know the specs, AVG:960fps STD DEV:1.6 Spread:5.0 with 10 shots. My MKII doesn’t come close to this for specs but shoots great. This is all because I sent it to Ken Hicks, I don’t know what he did, but it was the best $200.00 that I have ever spent. Thanks Ken.

Great video guys!!! I do notice that the majority of tuning videos are geared towards the.22/.25 calibers. I have the Maverick VP .30 cal w/600mm barrel. Would it be safe to say that I could start a tune for a 30 cal using your reg pressures and HS adjustments for a 22/25 cal.? I’m new at this and it’s confusing to me. Thanks !!

I own a .22 maverick compact. I think that with adjuster maxed (6mm out) and wheel @7, the stock hammer and spring only allows you to go up to around 130 bar before valve lock starts. That’s why they make heavier hammer weights and stronger springs. With that said the way I get to a tune (ie a specific velocity that is air efficient and accurate)is simple. Use the hammer to tune ~3 to ~5% below max velocity. For ex: 915-5% = desired 870 fps. 3% being for longer barrel and 5% for shorter barrel. I first max the spring load ie wheel and adjuster. Then start with regulator setpoint lower than what I suspect will be needed, say around 70 or 80 bar. Adjust up the set point until 915 is reached. Then turn in the adjuster screw and don’t forget to put it back on 7 lol (or whatever number you want to shoot on) until you see the FPS drop to 870. Of course 870 might not be the speed you need for your pellet weight or barrel but that same process is how you get the valve to be shut as the pellet leaves the barrel making it efficient and minimizing air turbulence behind the pellet. Also for one complete revolution on the adjuster spring is approximately 1/2 mm. Which also is the incremental steps on the power wheel.

Great video but here in the UK we are stuck with 12 ft pounds which seems to make it muck harder to tune just under or close to 12 ft pounds. If you could do a video to help us guys would great especially on a FX crown & King. Have both of theses guns in 177 and my crown from new was only shooting at 9.3 ft pounds so I tried to get it higher say go 11.6 ft but I can’t get in any where near 11.6 I can get it lower which is no good to me. Any help would be much appreciated. I keep all your videos and subscribe

As I like to tune it, it's 140 bar (all without touching the regulator again) and tune the hammer until it's accurate, moderate sound and not sounding like a crazy goat every time I press the trigger. Only then do I see the speed. I'm lazy and my way of tuning too. For the redesigned, heavy sulgs and .25 caliber.

These guns tune soooo easy these days. Compared to the days of my Marauder with an internally adjusted regulator, finding balance with an FX is a couple hour adventure at most. It’s squeezing that last 1-2% out of accuracy that will take 99% of your time if you want to compete with the big boys! There’s almost no 100% effective way to verbalize the process. You just have to do it. I’ve shot thousands of slugs out of my 25 Impact and haven’t replaced an o-ring yet. Had the regulator from 90-150bar back to 90 and back to 150. These guns are incredible feats of engineering. One thing I don’t hear guys talking enough about is seating depth. to squeeze the most accuracy out of slugs, it’s an absolute necessity. Get an adjustable probe (pin or pellet) and move your depth forward a few thousanth’s or back a few and then test. When your ES is solid but your groups are not great it’s either projectile length, seating depth or both. Try polishing your barrel, I’ve never gotten worse groups after lightly polishing. I had to polish the heck out of my superior heavy liner and now it shoots beautifully. Clean, polish then clean again. These guys 👆know a thing or three about that! Great hobby, even better community and it wouldn’t be possible without guys like AEAC or PJ. True class acts!

The regulator can start at 2250 psi, one shot it will be down to 2000, after 10 shots it will be down to 1750 psi.. A few minutes later it will be back up to 2000.. I have noticed that If my main tank is over 3000 psi then the regulator will settle and hang around 2000 psi but under 3000 it wants to settle around 1750 psi - no rhyme or reason for me..
