It was the early to mid 1980s. I was a young airman in the US Air Force stationed at a remote missile base in Sicily. I was living at a hotel while the barracks were being built. The hotel owner’s daughter was a girl about my age with beautiful dark hair and eyes that would melt the hardest of hearts. She saw me listening to Air Supply on my Sony Walkman and wanted to listen. We sat head to head sharing headphones listening to love songs. Oh my gosh, to say I was on cloud 9 would be the understatement of my life. This was how I spent almost every afternoon for the next 6 months. When my orders came I wanted her to go with me, but her mom was ill and she was now running the hotel and simply couldn’t. We stayed in touch for about 5 years but then it just all stopped. I think of this often now 40 years later and listening to Air Supply brings back some of the happiness and saddest days of my life. But this is how we know we are alive. Rock on!!!!
