I felt moved when I read Arnel Pineda's life-story. When his mom died they were broke. To ease his father's burden, Pineda quit school and started working. He spent about two years on the streets, sleeping wherever he could: in public parks, or on a narrow bench outside a friend's crowded house. He earned meager money by collecting glass bottles, newspapers, and scrap metal and selling them to recyclers. He would also go to the pier with his friends and take on odd jobs like cleaning scrap metal and docked ships. He didn't have much to eat. When Pineda was 15 years old (1982) he became the lead singer of the Filipino group Ijos, and later Amo. Didn't earn much but more than before, a rising curve started after he began singing in that band. In 1990 he and 5 other band members from Amo formed a new band called New Age. They worked in Hong Kong from 1991 to 2006. Back in Philippines in 2006 he formed a new band, called The Zoo. They became known on youTube performing cover songs by Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, Kenny Loggins, Stryper and other popular acts from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. In the summer of 2007 Neal Schon of Journey contacted Pineda, asking him to come to USA for an odition as the new lead singer for Journey. On December 5, 2007, Pineda was announced as the new lead singer of Journey and the rest is history, as they said. He really fought hard to get where he is today and of course, indeed he deserve it. it's not easy to fill Steve Perry's shoes, but if someone could do it, it was Pineda. It was very lucky for both Pineda and Journey that he became the new lead singer. It was a deal made in Heaven. amen.

Duh jealous, racist???...Most people can't sing quite like the ORIGINAL...Steve Perry. Whom every singer that followed him "imitates". I'm not saying that Arnel does not have a beautiful voice, because he does, but when one tries to sound like another, it's simply a cover. If you had been around in the Steve Perry era, you'd be able to hear and see the difference. With Perry, his voice carried so easily, and everyone after him, is just a lesser imitation. Absolutely no one can dispute that fact.

duuuuude... lifelong journey fan, first concert in 1986 with steve perry. i've avoided seeing this guy for so long out of sheer loyalty (it's kind of a roth/hagar thing;), but this guy might be as good if not better. both amazing vocalists, and an amazing band. journey holds up after all these years!

He sure as hell IS wearing it, until he pulls it at 1:57, which is VERY common. Vocalists often use it for opening verses to stay on key but the mix is usually so bright that they pull them when they get into the high notes that are common for them. Usually they just have a click track, layered with a strong vocal and snare...sometimes faint bass in their in ear mix to open. It varies depending on the track and artist but many only use the in ears for the first verse and ditch them to hear the rest of the band properly. Digital in ears can be overbearingly sibilant, especially when the mix is off. He sings the same upper register and hits the same key in a lot of his songs. It's easy for him to hit the key, it's pretty much the top of his comfortable range. Whatever did all those great vocalists do before in ears? Oh yeah, full band PA and stage monitors did it for them.

I'll never get tired viewing these video of Journey and Arnel, this song makes me feel young with goosebumps in me. Yes this concert in chile was amazing and too awesome! Beautiful crowd and really everybody enjoyed the performance of Arnel and the guys. Dean castronovos' drum sounds too great! Can't find a word to compliment these guys. After all these years a great come back for journey really! They found Arnel in times where they needed him. Cudos!!!
