@@bigdarshan The Huey is way more iconic and used by way more countries than the Mi-24. It is the helicopter that defined a generation, where as the Mi-24 was the helicopter that showed the world how easy they were to shoot down with Stinger missiles. Also the Huey was first introduced in 1959 making it almost 70 years old. The Huey had been flying for 10 years before the Mi-24 even entered service, so yea, the Huey is way more iconic, and not just because I say so.

This is one of my most favorite helicopters very iconic and very bad ass and could a hell of an ass kicking from the battlefield and that is no joke that’s why it’s called the flying tank or better known as the crocodile to westerners it’s called the “ HIND”👌🏼👍

Not often you see a Hind go straight vertical lift off. Most do a rolling take. Either way Coolest looking Rotor Bird around. Next Mi-28 and Ka-52 are also cool looking and deadly. Remember standing in the motor pool one day at Panzer Kazerne West Germany 1989 and saying hate to see an Mi-24 Hind or Mi-28 Havoc come up over the hill towards us. Thankfully that never happened but came close. Good times.
@oBseSsIoNPC3 жыл бұрын
Somehow I can never fully wrap my head around the fact, that the entire body and it's contents hang from the rotor hub. Once the blades create lift, the collective carries ALL of that weight....mind blown. Always reminds me of rock climbers hanging on 2 or less fingers.
@NixHarpinger3 жыл бұрын
You can't wrap your mind around it because the heli doesn't 'hang' from the blades, it kinda floats. The rotor blades basically beat the air which suspends the weight of the aircraft, creating lift. If you were to somehow stop the heli mid-air and held it by the rotor blades, they would tear off and the fuselage would plummet to the ground.
@oBseSsIoNPC3 жыл бұрын
@@NixHarpinger So wait. The flow of air around the fuselage creates lift? As in there is a low pressure area and a high pressure area around the body? How does that work!? Now you really got me curios...spending a few hours now to research how a helicopter works haha.
@NixHarpinger3 жыл бұрын
@@oBseSsIoNPC Honestly I have spent hours trying to understand why these tubs fly and don't fully understand yet as well xD But yea, basically it's the air density. For instance if a heli hovers for a long time on the same spot close to the ground, eventually it will displace enough air that the pressure will be too low to keep the heli "afloat" and it will crash. Some heli pilots say: Helicopters don't fly; they beat the air into submission xD
@NixHarpinger3 жыл бұрын
@@oBseSsIoNPC The blades are shaped like wings - so they create lower pressure on top as they pass through the air. That's why helicopters fly at much lower max altitudes than planes can. They need a lot of air to bully around at all times to keep a sustained flight. Also a helicopter pilot needs to make a ton of little adjustments all the time. Watch "Pilot Bambi's first heli lession in an R44" The instructor really explains things well and Bambi's really cute :D
@DG-EditsYT2 жыл бұрын

It’s curious to see that only Russians choppers make that swish sound from the blades when idling. I think both Mi-17 and Mi-24 are the only ones that do this. (Jetranger and UH-1 also do it, but only when starting up)
@ImpendingJoker3 жыл бұрын
Actually you can hear that on a lot of western helicopters as well. You can usually only hear it at low engine power as the blades at flight speeds make much more noise. The UH-60 Blackhawk is one such helicopter you can hear it on especially right after the first engine is lit.

One questions for the experts: why is the helocopter shaking so much, when accelerating the rotor? The rotor should be perfectly balanced..!?
@Wayoutthere7 жыл бұрын
He's shaking the stick during start-up. To check if all the blade controls work.
@JonathanZeidman7 жыл бұрын
Helicopters shake...a lot of torque from the main rotor that has to be cancelled out by the tail rotor, and in between there is a structure that has to deal with it...absorbent parts like the tires and shocks will allow for some force to translate into movement and some oscillation, or at least that is my take on it. Plus variation in the forces from winds...anyways, it's not a perfectly stable relationship going on there. You can safely bet the rotor is as balanced as humanly possible or it would tear itself to pieces. But I'm no expert either.
@patrickcamp58853 жыл бұрын
There did appear to be a blade out of track as well, which will contribute to a shuffle

@@ajr3071 Ground resonance is a uncontrolled reverberation between the helicopter and the ground. This is not that. As the rotor begins to turn there is a lot of mass that is being swung around, and it take time for the rotor head to get up to speed to spread the load evenly around the disk.
