The use of non-owner occupied houses as short term rentals like Airbnb are a terrible thing for Bozeman. We don't have enough rental stock as it is and so many of the people who have made this a great community are being forced out due to not being able to find a place to rent or by extreme rent hikes. For the sake of our town's future, please stop enabling those who would put their own financial interests above those of their neighbors.

Thank you for your comment but you must not have watched the video. There are very few airbnb opportunities in the zoning for airbnb properties that is the point of the video. Many people purchase properties here thinking it's wide open for airbnb so this video is a warning/advice video so that people don't just rush in and purchase an airbnb property then find out that you can't do that with the property. The small area that airbnb is ok has a very limited amount of residential units and is not affecting the rental availability in the marketplace. The lack of rental availability is because the landlords are selling their properties and removing them from the long term rental inventory. The extreme rent hikes are due to the landlords free will choices to take advantage of the market and that is a human nature thing. Who would sell their car for $5,000 when people are paying $8,000 and they could get that. They might do it for a relative or a friend but the general public they want market value. So if you want people to stop liking Bozeman you will have to remove the mountains, trails, ski hills, rivers and all the other wonderful things to do since that is what is driving this. Oh yes and the conservation groups buying up all the land to protect from any development so they can't build on the land also hurts supply. Our supply here will never increase enough to keep pace with the people discovering this amazing place that is just the way it is.
