Brian Chesky focuses on all the wrong things. He should focus more on training his customer service reps better, focus on screening process for those who use the platform, focus on supporting communities they've negativity impacted, etc. They take a minimum of 17.2% per reservation and still have yet to fix the important stuff. His words don't even match up with their WRITTEN expectations of guests on cleanliness. Anyone can Google Ground Rules. They have so much to fix. Who cares about "icons."

Of course, guests should clean their cereal bowls and do their own dishes. They are staying in someone's home and should RESPECT the home and treat it as if it were a cherished friend's home. As hosts of a three-bedroom, two-bath home, we spend a minimum of 4-5 hours cleaning PLUS the time off-site to wash bedding and towels. I can't believe Chesky would explicitly say that guests should not clean their own bowls! 😒

Apparently Brain has tried to avoid an unpleasant topic here, where the hotels are actually ahead. In hotels, the dishes are washed up for me, with Airbnb the guest should leave the accommodation as they found it. Not counting the normal cleaning, vacuuming, mopping and laundry. I am the host of a room myself. But when it comes to entire accommodations, Airbnb could actually change the rules and make the offer comparable to hotels. However, the current rules make sense for private hosts who share their accommodation with guests.

If they are to do cleaning then they shouldn't pay cleaning fees, that's the part you're missing. Why should one pay for a service if at the end of the day, they're the ones giving that service?
