Nice video. I put the Pathfinder figure together with Jon, I sourced the parachute, helmet, oxygen mask and equipment straps from No1 PTS. The trousers and chest rig are mine that I wore in Afghanistan. The kit has changed slightly in the last few years (helmet mainly).

Once again outstanding presentation Simon! Very different from the classic US Army Paratrooper of WWII. From my experience our equipment from the WWII parachute in the US it has only changed slightly till the new T-11 parachute which is square. From what I saw in your presentation the reserve parachute was only introduced after WWII and into the 1950s which was strange. US Paratroopers have always jumped with a reserve parachute even on low altitude jumps. Nothing in my training at Ft. Benning has really changed since WWII when I was going through. Once again fantastic video!

The reserve was possibly introduced around 1954 but, ironically, 3 PARA binned them when they jumped at Suez in 1956 (Op Musketeer). Your 82nd AB brethren took the mick out of us ~1990 because of our "wartime" rigs. I still argue that a single box release beats 3 hook attachments, especially dropping into water at night.

Another great presentation. I've only visited the Airborne Museum that used to be in Browning Barracks, Aldershot. I'm NOT criticising you nor the AA Museum; nomenclature of the Type X rig is erratic and complicated: 4:27 - It's a Type X Mk2 harness (COULD be a Mk3 which would be incorrect), not a Type PX. "PX" refers to the canopy modification (periphery net skirt) which, I believe, entered service in the late 1970s or early 1980sI The Type X (Mk3) harness was STILL in service by the mid-1990s when it was eventually retired. It was DEFINITELY a "Type X" (or "X Type" as we tend to call it), NEVER "PX". The last rig usually INFORMALLY called a "PX Mk4" or "PX4", the harness itself is exactly the same as the Wartime Mk1 but for colour, release box type, additional D rings and modern fittings (which are dull grey instead of shiney or blackened). Did the museum tell you it is a "Type PX"? 6:09 - That is a TINY container! The bungees are missing on the reserve! Good job I'm bequeathing my collection to the museum! They can sell what they don't need. At least I know they'll need my bungees... 7:16 - The mannequin IS properly up to date! The container is on the front instead of back, a relatively new position for HALO/HAHO in the time scale. If anyone knows where I can source the yellow "LOR2" lanyards on that BT-80 MMS rig, at a reasonable price, I'd appreciate it.

Simon, the Pathfinder figure was accurate at the time it was constructed (I did it), but the kit has changed slightly since, mainly the helmet (Ops Core is used now). The bergen changed from rear to front with the adoption of the BT80FF, around 2002.

Jumps from 70s to the 90s, was there nothing from the 80s on display?

The Falklands display is separate and will be covered in a future video. I think it's fair to say that's the most appropriate display of kit for the '80s.
