Yes 2 of them switched from Swiss on the Sat and wore the Austrian on the Sunday. Peadot and KAZ75. From what I am told the KAZ75 webbing is VERY hard to find, as are the original & intact peadot era belts & y straps (WWII reenactors get them and 'convert' them to Wehrmacht)

Pretty cool to see the Swiss army in the Cold war being portrayed by Reenactors, I have heard that the Swiss army kit is very difficult to source on the surplus market. Still cool to see this. (And also never knew the Swiss Army still used messenger pigeons up til the 90s!)
@boffinboy1003 жыл бұрын
As one of the guys who was there, half the kit was (and I guess still is) surprisingly easy to source (at least based in the UK). The 'Alpenflage' (not official name) is somewhat easy as are the leather gaiters and later SM.79(?) gas mask bags.The Helmets have started to get harder to find. The difficulty is the 'Achselschlaufen' which we needed to source from Switzerland, as we did with the blue-grey service shirts and leather belts (all of which were sourced from Switzerland where the kit is easy to find). The Schiffli (side caps) and ranks slides too come under 'source from Switzerland' unless you're super lucky in the UK. The correct boots/Bergschuhe are very hard to find at least in my size but the manuals do state for field use 'any suitable boot' is permitted so I had my Bundeswehr KS80 paraboots. Bayonets are still available at shows here.

Swiss equipment and uniforms are of a quality most armies can only envy. Check out Bloke on the Range Channel he has a guy who is all over the Swiss Weapon Systems and shots the practice flying Carrots of death showing the drills and how they changed .. The multipurpose Sturmgewehr 57 is well covered.
@boffinboy1003 жыл бұрын
@@davidbrennan660 simultaneously yes and no - the uniform is a load bearing jacket and the entirety of the weight of the grenades, ammo, food, etc., on paper nearing 40kg Is on your shoulders. Yes it was well made but not necessarily the best system. The rifles were made to a quality unrivalled, but I would not pick a Stgw57 ever as my service rifle as it is heavy, unbalanced, not ergonomic outside of the prone position. The army wanted something like the FAL, but the shooting associations wanted a target rifle - the SiG510 was the result of the compromise

In the eighties the Reservists Unit I was in , took part in a NATO Reservist Patrolling Competition in Belgium. The Swiss Reservist took part as guest, as did the Swedes. The Swiss had a mix of very modern, and pre WW2 equipment. They we’re very professional, and came first in most advents. The strangest part about the Swiss Unit that took part, were they were part of a Bicycle Unit, and their bikes were pre WW1 !
@alpinetheatrecollectingand84903 жыл бұрын
The Swiss army, being slightly (very) mad, used the same model of bicycle (the M-05, a non-geared type) until the 1990s without any modernisations or improvements. Absolute madness!

Very good video, i like the way you concentrated on a least known Country, ie Switzerland. Made it all more interesting. You should of got someone to do the same on yourself in your kit.

The rank stuff you'll have to source from 🇨🇭 unless you're very lucky. Websites such as Swissmilitaria.ch, Pinex.ch and Ricardo.ch. Gaiters are very easy on UK ebay still - idk about elsewhere. Pocket fillers - depends which pocket in particular. Stgw57 mags I have never seen outside of Walter's collection and on the rare rifles. The mess tins are not rare but not plentiful either. The 80s water bottle is also easily found on UK Ebay.

I had this issue as a cadet - a pen 'exploded' in my pocket (CS95 DPM) and I noticed whilst on parade when there was a small dark spot on my chest. Tbh from my experience with pens (granted not army experience) it doesn't really matter which way round you store the pen; if it is going to make a mark it will no matter what.
