Interested in learning airbrush. Your video has me moving into the challenge with more confidence than before. At 62 and extremely old school. Building high end custom fishing rods/tackle. Changes can be quite a fear factor. From the very beginning my world has been basic aerosol hobby paints. I'm convinced airbrush is going to allow me the detailing techniques I've been in search of. If nothing else mabe just getting a break from the obnoxious marble in each can as well as the ridiculously expensive camel hair brush

Hey man awesome video, it’s helped me loads! One question is about airbrushing lacquer that you mentioned. It’s a broad question; how the heck did you do it? I’ve been told it’s fairly impossible as lacquer is too thick. Is there a special lacquer that’s moderately hard wearing? Cheers Jools

Hi, great video. Good explanation. Just one question from my side. If you are in a painting process, let's say highlights, a bit white here, a bit black there. Do you have to clean the airbrush each time you change a color or just when you finished with the work?

Do you use rubbing alcohol to clean your airbrush even when you use water based paints? And if so, do you find that rubbing alcohol is more effective at cleaning an airbrush? Or is it wiser to follow the rule of thumb of using an appropriate solvent per the paint used?

(Sorry I'm doing a bit more digging !) Very nice video, I haven't found any further video about this topic but I have 2 questions in suspens. 1) Airbrushing seems always very thin stream. How does it compare to can spray paint in term of time to apply on a full armor for example. Do you still recommend an airbrush for large props or do you think can of spray paint are better for that ? Maybe a mix of both should be done ? 2) Still in VS can, one thing I've always been afraid with airbrush, is the cost. Not the initial one but the paint itself. How does it compare to spray paint cans to cover 1 square meter of surface for example. Is the paint with airbrush less or more expensive ? It's really hard to tell from video as it's always tiny quantity of paint used in the airbrush, and we never see how many tubes of paint you had to use for a props :s Thank you in advance for any answer, I hope you can give me some... or maybe make a airbrush vs spray cans video ? :P
@punishedprops7 жыл бұрын
You can use a variety of airbrushes or HVLP sprayers to cover larger areas of paint. I've even use my critter sprayer. I like that over spray paint because then I have more control over the color and consistency of the paint. Still sometimes a rattle can is the quickest, easiest method. Most airbrush paints are drastically cheaper than rattle cans. Remember that the majority of the volume in a spray can is the accelerant gas and not the pigment. Then again, you can get some really expensive airbrush paints.

Water isn't the greatest thinner for airbrushing, Windex is a good around cheap acrylic thinner but best practice is when the maker of a paint has a thinner for that paint use it and beware that Brand A paint my not always be thinned with Brand B thinner always test out of the brush first on something nonporous like a paint pallet so you can see how the paint is reacting to the thinner. Even "Pre-thinned/ ready to airbrush" paints will sometimes need to be thinned as well as the thinner will evaporate over time.

It does depend on the compressor - it also depends on how much continuous painting you plan to do. Smaller surface areas and short breaks can extend the painting time
