Why do you advise against thinning paint with water?
@SchemingGoldberg4 күн бұрын
Acrylic paint has two parts: the pigment (which creates the color), and a "medium" (which binds the pigment to the object). When you thin the paint with water, you are diluting it, which means it has less pigment and less medium. Because it has less medium, it won't bind properly to the object, so it will be splotchy when it dries. But if you dilute it with acrylic medium or airbrush thinner, then it dilutes the pigment but doesn't dilute the medium, so the paint binds properly.

In the States I found and try Golden's high flow acrylics. It doesn't need thinning. And it has high pigmentation. The bottle say it's for many uses. It even works on plastic models.
@AirbrushAsylum3 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome , I have never tried golden and yes some paints don’t need thinning just check the recommendations and go from there , that said Createx illustration colors for example is recommend to be used ‘as is’ but I much prefer it thinned 👍🏻

Hey man. I have a question please, how do watercolours go in the airbrush? Thinned down with water to consistency of milk. And how do alcohol inks go in airbrush, with little or no thinners?

@ airbrush asylum I have a question when you say say i mix it 1 to 1 and 30% paint and 70% reducer for detailed airbrushing. How do I measure that? Do I I use a eye dropper. But how many drops is 30% and 70% and 1 to 1 of paint and thinner. My eye droppers has milliliters on them.

A question about the composition of paints - are they suitable for painting on metal, and how does 2K car varnish work on them? Is it possible to work with these paints on a car and cover them with a regular 2K varnish?

Hello thank you for the great video! I was curious to know if you had any videos on spraying pearlescents or shapeshifting colors through an airbrush. I have been attempting to use a 0.5 mm with some airbrushed shapeshifting colors however my airbrush continues to get clogged within 2 or 3 minutes of using it. I've even tried a thinner and still the airbrush is uneffective. I really don't want to use a bottom feed with anything bigger than a 5 but this might be the only solution

why not water to thin?
@AirbrushAsylum2 жыл бұрын
Water can be used but I wouldn't recommend it, as it breaks down the viscosity of the paint and lots of reducers / thinners for example Trident Reducer has slipping agents within their reducer to help minimise tip dry and keep your paint performing at it's best.

How long will you store and reduced paints? I think createx says not to for over 24 hours, but that always makes me feel like i have to be very precise with the amount of paint i mix so as to not be wasteful. Thanks for the great videos!
@AirbrushAsylum8 ай бұрын
I have stored pre-mixed paints (only the ones where reducer or thinner are added) for as long as 2-3 years. If using any paints which need additives as well as reducer or thinner then those I typically only mix what I need . 😉

You have very informative videos . . . so much so that I am interested in taking your on-line course. Realistically, how much time would have to be devoted to the training? I ask because I travel a fair amount for my job and am curious if the course is able to be stopped and restarted and still be effective (understanding that innate talent - or lack there of! - cannot be factored into your answer).

Hi there and thank you for your comment and kind words and your interest in my online course. The course is designed so that you can learn at your own pace, you get lifetime access once purchased, it is based on our face to face introductory airbrushing course however it contains loads more info and it also has reference images plus cutting maps so you can get the most out of each exercise. The course is split into 3 chapters and you can always go back through any exercise or work on an artwork at your leisure and practice until you have mastered the techniques shown. I highly recommend making some of the basic exercises as part of your regular warm up routine as these are the fundamental things that you should practice to master your brush .👍🏻

Thanks loads for this. I am a returning modeller so whether I will do much in terms of proper airbrush work remains to be seen. Thanks so much. I keep clogging up my airbrush and i was thinking it’s just a bad quality product bc of constant tip dry and spidering… i was having to deep clean it every single time I put a coat of paint on something and I was thinking “but I’m thinning my paints!! Why is it clogged?”turns out there’s such a thing as TOO thin of paint and i reaally don’t need to be using vallejo model air which comes pre thinned, with 50% ratio of thinner added to it LMAO. I was so paranoid about not thickening my paint that I overthickened it!!
