Omg that is new for YT. I wished for a full flight all the time and I thought your channel is exactly the right on for that (especially with the 40 min video + walkaround, departing to Berlin) and now it’s here. Danke fürs super Feedback! Grundsätzlich ja. Allerdings muss ich dazu einen passenden Flug im Dienstplan haben, das Wetter passen und die Aufzeichnung einwandfrei funktionieren. Der Dienstplan und das Wetter sind immer eine Überraschung. Auch die Technik arbeitet nicht immer so, wie ich es will. Deshalb kann es noch etwas dauern. Aber ich bin zuversichtlich, dass es nicht bei dem einen Flug bleibt.

This is the best video of the channel and a great new-year gift for us! I didn't see the notification and watched the video late. The final turn was exciting, especially as the red area of the weather radar was getting dangerously close. That ATC could have made you turn sooner..!!! Greetings from Italy and happy new year!!

My understanding is that German ATC has not a good weather radar system. So they may not know about the weather, especially if it is such a small cloud. As you see in the video, the radar picture of the cloud changed. The picture showed a higher water density (red) as we were getting very close to the cloud.

Dear Capt. Buntenbach. A question from my side. During the approach briefing you asked your Fo about runway preference. If there is no other safety factor, my suggestion would have been the 26R. This with the argument that if we exclude ATC instructions, weather and shortcuts, we would have to fly few less trackmiles than for the 26L. On the 26R we would taxi longer, but we could do this using the SET procedure. So in favor of fuel efficiency I would have suggested the 26R and request a short app with an interception on 4000ft, also in view to avoid the severe weather east of the field a little bit for passenger comfort. I would be very interested in your opinion on this. Why did you clearly choose the 26L? Is the fuel factor negligible since the autothrust keeps the N1 correspondingly low due to the continuous descent? Herzlichen Dank und einen schönen Abend Michael

Thanks for watching and your detailed thoughts! You do not know in advance how ATC exactly lines you up to the final approach track. Sometimes the nearer runway needs more miles to fly due to traffic. With no delay and the shortest possible approach, 26R would have had a few seconds less flight time, but way more taxi time. 26R could have added another 10 minutes or even more to the taxi time. On one of my previous flights, it was way more than 15 minutes additional time due to the traffic situation. The plane also needs fuel for taxiing in. If possible, we always want to arrive on time or earlier at the gate. Our passengers may have connecting flights and expect us to be on time. This has also to be taken into account during the decision making process. So I preferred 26L. The turn to base could have been a litte earlier in accordance to our request to avoid the cloud, which looked more ugly on the radar as we got closer to it. Other pilots may have come to different decisions because there is no right or wrong here.

may I recommend to add a second sound layer to the video from one of the gopros recording the interior, so that one can hear the engine and aircraft sounds? maybe at a low volume compared to the intercom voices. but i think it would a nice addition to the ambiance to be able to hear the sound of your voices as well as all the iconic noises like buttons, switches, and of course engines. other than that, thanks for the fun video, and happy new year!

Thanks for watching and your suggestion! This is already the case. There are several audio tracks mixed together. In the video, you hear the noises of moving seats, the voice of the auto callouts our clicking tables, the avionics fans, the landing gear moving over integrated runway loghts and more. I could increase the audio volume of the „background noises“. The result would be that the cockpit communication and ATC would be more difficult to understand due to the increased noise in the background. But I will try to increase it a little bit more in the next video. Please let me know how you like it.
