A lot of Airbus haters say that these planes don't need a pilot, or that a single button is enough to fly them. Reality is that the pilot is even more empowered when flying an Airbus: having a system alerting him of the risk of runway excursions lets the pilot concentrate on other issues, guaranteeing that when the time comes of making an important decision the pilot will have all the tools to make the right choice.

A few days ago I saw a film about an accident where the plane had an overrun and I thought: "Why there are no systems that help pilots at the landing?" So now I am very happy about systems like that which help the crew at the decision whether they should land at a runway at a thunderstorm. But one question: If I was an airline and bought for example a new A321 neo, would be this systems included for free or only if I would pay extra? Because than I would see the problem that low-cost-carrier maybe wouldn't pay for these systems because they are too expensive.
@FSFLIGHTproductions5 жыл бұрын
After a certain date I believe the ROPS/ROW system is included for free. Lost cost carriers in Europe already have aircraft with this system fitted flying passengers around.

This is indeed a very good feature. Certainly shows lot of innovative implementations for safety in Airbus aircrafts. This is especially good as they will be having this in A320 family as many runways are quite short or at difficult terrain where A320 lands/takes off. This will be useful for ACJ320neo family buyers also as this may help to land on shorter runways more precisely & safely. This in turn would make ACJ more preferred than mid sized jets like G650ER or Global 7500.

Why do we need this. This make a pilot less alert because of less work. It make the plane more complicated. This will increase the risk of error. Be like the 737 and keep it classical
@tomstravels5205 жыл бұрын
Airforce 5 and look at how many 737’s have overrun the runway as a result of not realising that you won’t stop in time. I don’t see how it makes them less alert. What less work? They have to program the system so that’s more work. They always have to do a performance check anyway during approach. What possible evidence can you say it’ll increase error?
@airforce5565 жыл бұрын
Pilots will rely on it and over time gain too much trust in it. That when thing go wrong
@tomstravels5205 жыл бұрын
Airforce 5 so are you saying the autopilot is useless because pilots rely on it too much? You do know pilots check before/during descent using a landing distance calculator anyway. If they find out during those calculations it’s too short they won’t even attempt to land there. This system is for things like sudden tail winds, speed being too high and landing further than anticipated
@a.nelprober49713 жыл бұрын
I bet this is overpriced. You could just train pilots better.
@gianlucagomara726210 ай бұрын
This isn't an excuse for less training. This is an added safety barrier. More barriers equals less chances of accident.
