The 787 is probably my favorite airliner. Such a masterful design, beautiful engines, incredible wings, and a magnificent cockpit. I've flown with it to Chile last year and it feels great during takeoff and landing procedures.

Flying is remarkable. The crew departs from an airport on an island with 18,000 people and lands 11 hours later in a city of over 2 million. The entire taxi to depart Dzaoudzi is around the distance of a single ramp area at Charles de Gaulle. They can climb unrestricted out of Dzaoudzi to 36,000 feet, while at Paris they would get an initial climb to 5000 feet at best. The Dreamliner can depart at nearly MTOW off a 6300 foot long runway. And most remarkable, this was a domestic journey.

I'm sure they edit the film but there are brake wear tire blow outs hydraulic oil and engine oil leaks. Report to mechanics and they fix quick or change planes and turn around. I've boarded a few times and they had to change the flight computer before takeoff. Wires wear, software becomes corrupt.

Are these pilots certified to fly both the 787 and 777 at the same time? Is that normal? How can they not get confused?

They train on simulator before changing type. Some countries let pilots fly different types simultaneously.

The published takeoff distance for a 787 is significantly longer than what is available at Mayotte. How can this be?
