The model considers the mechanical domain only, as it focuses on the impact of asymmetric rotation and vibration on the rotordynamics, the mechanical loads and machine integrity. Therefore, the different components are modeled in 3D domain using MBS elements. To increase the model performance, only the LP shaft is rotating - this could also be coupled to the thermodynamic cycle model. The bearings of the LP shaft are modeled by 3D springs to allow a response to the excitation coming from vibration, and to have direct access to the corresponding forces and loads for further design tasks.
In order to enable the fan blade failure, e.g. due to a bird strike, the corresponding part of the blade is mounted by a free motion joint. Thus, the blade part can disassemble from the fan at the point in time given by the corresponding signal block.
During the run-up, the model predicts the loads and displacement on bearings due to resonance.
