These planes are made for FedEx feeder and other cargo ops. It is purely a money maker airplane. Private owners don’t need this kind of useful load. Plus you’re taking on the maintenance and insurance requirements of a turboprop to only go as fast as a 182.

One of the best airplane presentation videos I have seen. The presenter reminds me of a younger Russel Crowe. Really well done, subbed! What a great plane this is. I notice the door top sill is low near the pilots head and they would have to duck to see the wing then realized the windscreen wraps nicely around so you just lean forward to look at the wing or out the side! Two questions... 1.) Would it not be better that Cessna replaces all those steam gauge standbys with a standby EFIS? Garmin makes one that fits in holes that size! (2.) With GPS everywhere why is ADF still in use, sorry if that sounds ignorant , genuinely curious. Thanks!
@TurbinesandTailwheels2 жыл бұрын
Thank you @wootle2btootle ! That Caravan windshield really does give incredible visibility. Regarding the standby instruments, I agree. Cessna could modernize the cockpit and save weight with the new electronic standby EFIS displays. They have done this in the single engine pistons, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see this soon in the 208 and 208B. The ADF - good question. When I sold these planes for Textron Aviation, we always wondered the same. Other than a good timer, and the ability to listen to Rush Limbaugh reruns and ball games, they are really a waste. (and mess up an otherwise attractive panel).
@CyberSystemOverload2 жыл бұрын
@@TurbinesandTailwheels Thank you for the reply very interesting. Haha yes listening to ball games is the way on those long hauls! BTW I recall back in the day there was a company that shoved TWO PT6's in a Caravan. Soloy DualPac I think (going from memory here). Are those still around? Do people somewhere still show interest in such a thing?
@TurbinesandTailwheels2 жыл бұрын
@@CyberSystemOverload yes, Soloy did put that mod together for the twin pac Caravan, but it never got any traction in the market. I'm not even certain whether the STC was completed or not? Too much complexity and weight out front I think. The Blackhawk and Texas Turbine big engine mods took over that part of the market.

What is the average cost to lease a cessna caravan?
@TurbinesandTailwheels2 жыл бұрын
@chi, lease rates vary widely based on two primary factors: 1) the age and value of the aircraft, and 2) the structure of the lease. Looking at common hull values ranging from $1M to $3M US, associated monthly rates will vary proportionately. Also, how the lease is written can vary widely; features such as who is paying for maintenance, who is paying into the engine overhaul reserves, insurance, etc., all factor significantly. That being said, monthly rates could be sub-$10k/month to more than $30k/month, and may or may not include DOCs.

great airplane! such a payload! but a PT6 needs a pressurize airplane.
@tomdickens78563 жыл бұрын
Something which this guy failed to mention is that caravans come equipped with supplemental oxygen systems in the form of an oxygen tank with provisions for masks or cannulas for pilots and passengers. The caravan itself is capable of altitudes of 25,000 ft, so this lends itself well toward cruising high above weather (with the exception of thunderstorms), while maintaining cruising speed and improving fuel economy. It would be impractical for this aircraft to be pressurized because the windows are too large and the necessary reinforcements to the fuselage would significantly increase the empty weight of the aircraft. In addition, this would limit the overall lifespan of the airframe. If properly maintained a caravan can fly indefinitely.
@caca1211123 жыл бұрын
@@tomdickens7856 good point. it helps!
@FlyingJournalism3 жыл бұрын
Very accurate answer tom Dickens, as a former caravan pilot, taking them to high altitudes such as 25k was not always the best way to fly. The body just isnt designed for the efficiency of flying at high altitudes like a king air or something. I can say you can stop a caravan in 400ft

Which a turbo prop basically is. Its a jet engine that instead of using thrust to move the airplane, uses that thrust to spin a kind of waterwheel behind the engine spinning a shaft running through the engine to turn the propeller.
