The mix "Honey Do Carpenter" uses is 1 oz. shampoo per 32 oz. water. Harry started with at least 3.5 gal. water, which would call for 14 oz. shampoo. His mixture is quite lean. At proper mixture the shampoo makes a VERY firm and durable foam and would still be much cheaper, even in greater concentrations, than the Drexel.

Harry That was a great test video. Kudos Buddy...I have found that to get the best results from suave I do have to use alittle more suave to get the similar results as drexel but It is still way more cost effective. Awesome video.

Thanks Darwin, I planning on increasing the suave to 3 capfuls and reducing the amount of drexel on the next test I do. That dog house your making is looking AWESOME! great idea the way you cut and folded the studs.

Douglas Pohl the foaming agent doesn’t need to last much longer than a couple hours for the Portland to hold its structure until it cures so I fail to see what good a 13hour test would do? You realize Drexel doesn’t do anything but make foam right. It doesn’t chemically do anything to the concrete. As far as smells go I don’t see that happening but if it does then the off gas from the chemicals in Drexel residue could be a greater concern than you think.
@AircreteHarry6 жыл бұрын
Peanut Droppings this is a very wet mix and adding the foam to it makes it take a lot longer to firm up, normal cement wood be hard after 2 hours aircrete is still liquidy after 2 hours. And I understand Drexel only makes foam that's exactly what we need for making aircrete. The foam creates the bubbles that trap air in the cement to create a lightweight insulative cement. And I was not referring to the smell of Drexel but I was referring to the smell of the shampoo I was comparing to the Drexel. Thanks for the comment
@peanutdroppings68826 жыл бұрын
Aircrete Harry well I do agree that Drexel is the superior foaming agent for longevity. I also believe that a more concentrated mix of the suave would hold up better than expected. My concern isn’t of smell necessarily. If you pour shampoo on the ground and leave it there it’s not going to build any molds or toxic fumes worse case is “maybe” a bad smell over time but doubtful. I’m more concerned with the fact the Drexel is afterall a toxic chemical not meant for long term exposure and concrete will off gas for years and longer in the form of aircrete. I know it only matters in living structures and I know that’s not “approved” yet. However my grandfather holds a patent on a wire frame wall system and I see no reason the medium within couldn’t be aircrete! That bypasses any concern for structural integrity issues.
@AircreteHarry6 жыл бұрын
Peanut Droppings what's the name of the wire frame system your grandfather holds a patent to? I would like to learn more about this system always looking for a more efficient way to build.

Why did you publish this video? Unless I missed it, you didn’t wait longer than 2 hours and tell us the results. -and- if you had to tweak the amount of Suave, we weren’t told that either. We were left hanging with 2 variables. Can you enlighten us as to how this experiment eventually came out? Thank you Sir.

Hi there Harry, try adding three spoonfuls of glycerin to your soap mixture to increase the bubbles. I Enjoy watching your videos
@docthebiker6 жыл бұрын
Adjusting the quantity of shampoo would probably give an as firm a resulting foam as the Drexel for less $'s The real test would be to mix 2 batches of airbricks and test for setting time, weight and strength. Test comparative viscosity by putting them in a cylinder and place a close fitting disc with just a small gap, maybe weighted, onto the two foams to see how long it takes to push through.

You might consider adding some glycerin to the shampoo batch. Some find that it enhances the ability of the shampoo to keep it's bubbles and structure. Just FYI.

Have you thought about adding aluminum powder at a 1% or less to the concrete mix you may not need the foam the aluminum in the mix causes bubbles and it is supposed to increase yeld of pour 2-3times

No i have not thought about that. I'll have to see a video of how that works. Thanks for the idea.

Harry Maldonado just been researching and a company call cellular fibro concrete uses this method in their production of their dry mix. And the AAC company in Haines City FL says they use it in their production of blocks. If you Google aluminum in concrete and you can see. Also it supposed to be able to be done with magnesium oxide also.
@timothykeene58536 жыл бұрын
Cellular fibro concrete has a video on KZbin and you can see some of the process
@jims12016 жыл бұрын
Good information! Looked it up... common in AAC production. New info to me. Looking forward to playing w/ it. I think the trick in using it is going to be that you don't want the aluminum production of Hydrogen to last for very long as the continual off-gassing into/during the set and cure period of concrete will weaken it by continuing to expand and move the concrete.
@timothykeene58536 жыл бұрын
Jim S my understanding it fully expands 2-3 hours depending on the ratio. Everything I've read on it says not to exceed 1% but I'm going to try myself

Watching your test and its results and comparing it to Darwins shows a large difference in your mix ratios. You used what looked like 4oz. in 4 gallons of water and your foam collapsed. He used about 4oz. in 1 qt of water and his foam stood up nicely for hours. Comparisons require similar ratios.

anybody compare 7th generation dish soap to Suave for making aircrete? Anybody ever try an 12v electric tire inflator to generate the foam?
@michaelharrison27755 жыл бұрын
Concrete suffers from sulfates. It breaks down hardened concrete. That makes me wonder why Dawn is such a popular choice for foaming, and why I wonder why people are saying to add it to the slurry. Does Suave contain sulfates? But plasticizers are probably good to use.

do you have a video of your gun set up? it looks a bit less involved that THDC set up and also that you wouldn't need a pressure rated container for your solution since it seems to be a siphon set up. I'm thinkin about doing some faux rock siding for my crawlspace to cover the block, I haven't messed with aircrete but it is intriguing. do you have any recommendation on a mix for something like that and how thick you would make it. I had planned on like 1 part sand 2 part Portland cement and then I guess 3 parts foam, what ever doubling my final cement mix with foam works out to. I had also planned on making the forms 1.5" thick for the siding but didn't know if that would be too thin even without them having a load put on them

Don Duncan drexel cost about $30. bucks a gallon. Suave is about $2. bucks for 30 ozs, that's $8.53 a gallon. I think the interest has to do with ease of availability also.
Harry and Darwin (kzbin.info/door/ApbVsMQ2oO0WlW3BHC1mVw) - Love your work...each of you. It WOULD be helpful if in the video information sections here you could add the cost per ounce of the respective foaming agents, and then the cost per [roughly] identical foam density batch (e.g. the ratio of water to agent needed, best using a standard like 'per gallon'). I think I have seen the Drexel at around $25/container, but I am not sure if it is really that much more per ounce??? Just a quick outlay of the math would be great....and HARRY, if you could do a summary of "Best Practices" after all of these experiments. It SEEMS like Drexel with those basaltic support strips is best (but would love to see tested against Darwin's wire mesh again as to cost and benefit). Ultimately, I think I am driving towards what Darwin plans to do with his KickStarter....get some conclusory DIY science going!
