What's most important is the heat retention ability. R value is a lab test and not applicable in the real world. Most insulation has air in it and allows air flow and moisture. Where as closed cell foam doesn't. 2" of closed cell will prevent 86% of heat transmission. I assume since aircrete and foamcrete don't allow air or moisture thru it, it would be like closed cell foam.

Aircrete can be created as an open cell or a closed cell, depending on how you mix it.

1) Just to be clear, has the testing been done yet? Is the link provided for a document that is ready now or something that is still to be done later? 2) I think you should provide the R-Value results on the website so that prospective DIY builders would know if this is even something worth pursuing. I've been watching your videos for years now. I'd be very curious to know the tested number prior to purchasing the stamped document, as I think many people would. 3) What is the timeline on "My goal is to develop standardized mixes to be used in different applications such as Aircrete / Styro Aircrete for Insulation vs Aircrete / Styro Aircrete for Structural purposes?" The air can be replaced, heliumcrete to create floating gravity defying backyard planetariums, or perhaps argon for additional R value.

I have always wanted a solid pour rebar reinforced concrete home. I was sold on it when talking to a friend who builds these kinds of homes. Recently my wife joked and said "just pour concrete in the walls" Then i said something to my friend and he mentioned aircrete. I'm two days into this research wondering what the feasibility of replacing current insulation in the house i just bought, with aircrete is, and how much better would aircrete be than the insulation currently in the home (built in texas in 2007). I dont know much about insulation or how it works to be honest, i just want a house that stays much cooler in the summer.

Isn't there a greater problem... inconsistencies and/or calling something DIY made by the name aircrete... Seems many public mix recipes require certified lab testing to validate DIY samples as meeting an established building standard be it only for insulation or for load bearing etc... one mix cannot provide certification for all uses. Until a given mix recipe is shown as meeting a particular use, i.e. insulation, load bearing etc. It seems premature to be testing an unproven mix recipe for "R" value(s). Check with your local building department. Aircrete likely is unknown, or if allowed DIY it must be certified as meeting the current building code to be re-sold. Not meeting the building code is a no sale road block unless you demolish, truck to a landfill and then sale the remaining land value. Check with your local officials. Good luck!

The sample being send to the Licensed R-Value Engineer will be a standardized mix that I developed & will have the exact recipe for. That information will be included with the R-Value paperwork. This particular test will be for an Insulative Aircrete that will be used for pouring into wall cavities for Insulation purposes. Eventually I will have different Aircrete recipes tested. For as long as we have a Licensed R-Value Engineer documents, anyone will be able to use this standardized recipe for their Insulative purposes. My goal is to develop standardized mixes to be used in different applications such as Aircrete / Styro Aircrete for Insulation vs Aircrete / Styro Aircrete for Structural purposes.

I was just wanted to know more about his house build, I want to add insulation type cement to exterior and interior of an existing building which has 4' tall stem walls with 2x4 wood stud walls above that. It basically has no siding, only wood sheathing on outside and nothing on the inside. What would you recommend?
