Holy cow. That double shell design is brilliant. I've never seen anything like that done before but it opens up a lot of possibilities. I'm amazed at the sheer number of innovations you've come up with over the past few years. The barrel based drum is brilliant too. What a time saver, not to mention a back saver.

Great concept. We just used your foam generator for the first time today and it worked well. Two questions: 1) Can you mix in fiber-mesh in that pump set up? 2) Have you looked into manufacturing a double wall plastic shell as follows: The inner tyvek shell is identical to what you use. 9" tyvek straps connect it with the outer tyvek shell that is bound to the inner shell. In this way when the inner shell is inflated, all you have to do is pour your aircrete in between the two tyvek shells that are linked together at the bottom and sides and keep the fan going until it hardens and use your pump to do the filling - perhaps putting in the pipe before you blow the dome up so it's in place. This eliminates the double concrete shell and as long as the pump is kept full it could be done in 1-2 days with the strength coming from the fiber mesh. Another approach could be to build a rebar dome, put the inner tyvek shell inside and blow it up or attach it with ties to the rebar, then sleeve the outer dome over the rebar and put your pump on the top to fill in between the two tyvek sheets with rebar inside for structural integrity. Any thoughts on either of these techniques? I have a number of 17' domes I plan to construct - around 30 - so every labor-saving technique is quite valuable. Let me know if you have the ability to manufacture the inner and outer dome shells 17' in height/width? You can reach me at dane@mysticallandscapes.com

If your fill spout had a tube inside going down near the bottom, could you still fill and pump out without having to tilt the barrel? Do you think some 1/4" mesh over the opening would help prevent chunks getting into the fill line? Would almost be tempted to hook up something like a shopvac to suck the aircrete into the barrel or just make the lid removable so I could mix right in place. Such good work, an impressive setup already.

@ThomasEWalker
@ThomasEWalker 2 жыл бұрын
Use a pressure relief valve in the air inlet system so you never overpressure the container. Filter for chunks. Use a bottom outlet = no tilting. Also, if you can figure out a removable top you won't have to move the mix. You dump contents into the barrel, mix it, put the top on and pump it. You're welcome, world. Also, I don't think this has to be limited to domes, now then, does it? Thatta make ya think, huh? ;-)

How thick are those outer shells of cement on the air forms? Is it a thin latex cement that could be sprayed with a hopper? I'd love to build this way but am worried about cost with all the specialty tools/ingredients/airforms
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry 2 жыл бұрын
For this building system you only need .5 - 1inch thick shells and fill the space with Aircrete. You don't need to use latex but it makes it stronger. The Air-form you can make yourself for $220. Goto Aircreteharry.com and buy the How to build an Air-Form.

A few questions I'm wanting to start a dome build business for homes and businesses. Have you done a wind speed test, Earthquake test and a fire test? If so, what are your results? Have you shot a 2×4 at different speeds to simulate tornado conditions? Because it is so lightweight, what about anchoring to keep it from blowing down the road in winds of 240 miles per hour. I live in Texas, we have three main conditions to address one of them is flooding. I noticed that this concrete can float. Do you think it is possible to lock the domes to the ground and release to float upwards above the surface ground 4 to 8 feet. Almost like a car lift??? Sorry, I have a lot of questions about ways that would lessen disastrous conditions damages. Of course, nothing will be 100% because natural disasters conditions can change in a blink of an eye. But some readiness is better than a square house that leaves you with nothing. The number one cause of so much damage to a home is the fact that it is square. That is why I am asking Congress to change the requirements for rebuilding in natural disasters zones to dome shapes. Mankind needs to rethink its building processes and get far away from square buildings as much as possible. Cylinder, egg and even pill shaped buildings are aerodynamic and fluid dynamic. What are your thoughts about public safety during national disaster and how a dome home could be the answer these areas?

Great job Harry! What mix did you use for the two concrete shell mixes? Did you use that stucco sprayer rather than your green shotcrete pump/sprayer?
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry 2 жыл бұрын
Thank You! The first shell was the Latex concrete mix( Portland & Sand) the second shell was EPIC cement mix, all you need is Portland and sand for the two shells. I was teaching a workshop and showing how to make all 3 mixes. And I used a stucco sprayer for the first time to show you don't need a heavy duty shotcrete pump machine to build with my air-form system.

Just curious, what size or type of air compressor are you using Harry? How did you determine the "cavity" between the airforms? I did not see any particular spacers other than ridges on the first airform. What is the radius of the dome?
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry 2 жыл бұрын
The Air compressor is the Gas powered Harbor Fright 180 PSI. I wanted 6 inches of Aircrete so I made a 10 foot Dome and 11 foot dome making 6 inches if I wanted 12 inches I would have put a 12 foot Dome air-form over the 10 foot. Before mounting the air-form I marked the ring beam I will have another video talking about the dome coming out soon.

Ok, thanks! We must have missed it in the packing materials. I'll check the email. Yesterday we poured 2, 45 inch deep sample forms. One with our standard mix and one with the addition of the thickening agent. Neither seemed to sink much, so we probably need to try again with an even taller form. I'm glad we have the garden wall to fill with all of our practice batches. We are having good success with 2 foot deep pours, although probably losing some volume as we dump multiple batches in. Once we are done, it doesn't seem to settle much, unless we get a leak, or air pockets around the chicken wire.

First of all, you're not spraying "cement" as you call it. You're spraying concrete. Learn the difference. I was building geodesic domes out of plywood 50 years ago and what was true then is still true. . Nothing fits into a dome. Fighting leaks is a permanent maintenance item. The acoustics will drive you nuts. A cost of $5000 for a 16' dome ($24.88/SF) is sure nothing to crow about. Air entrained has its place in construction but you're taking the long way around the barn. Learn it the hard way, I guess.
@AircreteHarry
@AircreteHarry 2 жыл бұрын
Mark you are Wrong!! Concrete consist of rock, sand, or gravel and cement. I have no rock, sand, or gravel in my mix there for I am not spraying concrete! You have to learn the difference in the ingredients that make up what I'm spraying. Unlike the inferior geodesic domes made from wood. I do not have leaks in my domes, I build them to be maintenance free! For $5000 you have a dome that will never Burn Down, with a shell that is 8 to 10 inches thick, Bullet proof, bug proof, water proof. Air entrained AKA Aircrete does have it's place and with the Aircrete mix designs I have developed it is used to insulate my slab, and in this video the walls. Instead of the very expensive spray-foam. Nothing long about this way I can build any size dome up to a 40 foot in 7 days solo. Very easy and fast. The dome in this video is one of two ways I build Domes.
