That looks awesome. I always wanted that Mustang when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's. I was really happy when Airfix announced they were releasing it again this year. I'll pick one up as soon as they arrive in New Zealand. I've still got the Airfix 1/24 Bf 109E in my closet that my father gave me. He got it sometime around 1975, along with numerous others that he never built. I've been working my way through the old stash, with just the Bf109 and a 1/32 Revell Beaufighter left to build. Your base for the Mustang is brilliant.

You don't have much choice with that model because the wheel wells are just big gaping holes under the wing.
@hlcepeda2 жыл бұрын
@@meauxjeaux431 No argument with you on a good reason for building a 'flying' model, but it should be noted that primemodelworks dude has built several other 'flying' models, and some from makers that give you very good wheel wells. I think he likes to see his models fly!
@meauxjeaux4312 жыл бұрын
@@hlcepeda Maye so. But all of my flying models are jets since they don't have props. I didn't realize that model was void of wheel wells until I was a good ways into the build. Then the wing dihedral was basically non existent also. That made me lose interest in it, and I ended up abandoning it.

Have you ever done a how-to for packaging completed models for shipping?? That would be a cool video! It still floors me that you can build scale models and not get obsessed with accuracy. By the time most of us get something finished we know exactly how many were built, where the factories we're, all the engine details and performance specs. It sometimes drains some of the fun out of it. I'm happy for you that you don't get tormented like that!

When you said "2 footer- 3 footer", I instantly thought... "you're gonna need a bigger boat". Anyhoo, damn good job. The Airfix 1/24 kits are shocking (except the Hurricane) and I at least got em when the molds where new. Stickers? Fine by me. You've earned the right to call em whatever you like. They where called transfers when I first started and they still are- until the day my brain gives out and I end up eating them or something instead.

Those Warburg decales are the greatest. I'm also a big fan of the new Eduard decales with the removable carrier film. Especially when you put them down over "FOIL" Really like the subject matter and plan to do a 1/32 scale I have in my stash this way. A really awsome job.
@davidorr6627Ай бұрын
Interesting that you like the new Eduard decals. There is so much negativity about them online. I haven't used them yet, but I've got 2 Eduard kits in the stash with the new decals, so it will be interesting to see how they work out.
@brandtall9639Ай бұрын
Wait til you try them. Any time I can get that clear carrier film to disappear is a win. You do have to develop a skill set for them but well worth it. Try one of the decals you’re not putting on the model on a mule and you’ll see how they work. Timing is everything. Once on, wait until mostly dry and pull the clear film off with Tamiya tape. Carefully Happy modeling guys.

@herbzinn31313 жыл бұрын
Aw, you are way too humble about your skills, but that's what I truly admire about you. I am in the midst of building this kit, too, but am taking the longer road and detailing it with the complete engine, an Airco instrument panel, and detailed wheel wells and engine cover from Model Monkey. I am a bloody fool, because like you, I find these large scale early Airfix kits to be a mess. I've done the Spitfire Mk I, Hurricane Mk I, BF-109E and the FW-190A, and they all have the same flaws in common. Engine covers don't fit once the kit's done, dihedrals are from hell, gun bays are silly and so are the gear bays. But I had it in my mind to take these on and they sit proudly on my Man Cave shelves commemorating the Battle of Britain (save for the FW which had no hand in that). God knows when I will get the Mustang done given the tasks I have laid out for myself. A friend of mine's Dad served on the light cruiser USS Philadelphia in WWII, and my friend was hankering for a model of the ship to go aside his dad's photo. I searched and found a 1:700 resin kit. Amazing since the Brooklyn class light cruisers were a revolutionary step for the USN, designed to counter the Japanese Mogami class heavy cruisers. I don't do ships but he's my best bud and plan to have this done by his birthday in November. Trouble (aside from building the damned thing) is shipping it to him. Which leads to my question: have you ever done a video about how you pack your finished products for shipment? If not, could ya? Keep up your excellence. You are a true inspiration to this aging plastics jockey!

You sir are a much braver man than I! Would love to see that Mustang when you’re done, I’ll bet that’ll be a show stopper. As far as shipping my models, I have in fact produced a video that might help you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZDclXV5gJKJpM0

Thanks, I'll have a look see. I forgot to mention that I have also built the Airfix 1:24 Ju-87 Stuka. That was a REAL chore. To this day it just sits high on my Man Cave shelf and I daren't touch it for fear of damaging something, it's so fragile. And the canopy was just loads of fun to deal with. Nothing works as advertised. I also have the Airfix 1:24 scale Typhoon, Mosquito and Hellcat in my stack to do...but the later Airfix large scale birds were much better engineered than their predecessors so I anticipate a more enjoyable build. Toes crossed. Wish me luck on the Philadelphia. As I said, I was surprised the Brooklyn class cruisers didn't get more attention from the likes of Trumpeter since they were considered very innovative for their time. They could hurl more steel faster than their Mogami heavy cruiser counterparts. Having seen a 1:700 scale model ship kit...what I would do for a 1:350!

I have been looking around online here for any videos of someone taking the Italieri C-130J 1:48 scale model and painting it up as the Blue Angels "Fat Albert". So far I have nothing. I have a lot of reference photos now and I have a plan for how to pull this off. However, I was wondering what your thoughts would be about this? Would you consider taking a project like that on. You can get the proper scale decals for it, but that doesn't cover the whole paint scheme. In addition to this, they just unveiled a new paint scheme for it. So now my old photos may have to be thrown out if I choose to use the new scheme. Still though, what are your thoughts, how would you approach the paint on this? A 48 scale Fat Albert is going to look great if I can get the paint right on it. Wish me luck.
@seanerk5kt93 жыл бұрын
I personally wouldn’t want to take on that specific project but I don’t think it would be too hard to paint, just a lot careful masking. I’d first lay down a solid coat of white. I’d then mask off the white area, paint the yellow area, then mask off the white and yellow and paint the blue. I personally would make sure not to get any yellow in the areas where I was going to paint the blue so as to keep my blue color consistent without having to spray it too thick.
