As a kid growing up in the 60's, we never had much. But, now and then I would get a model car or plane. Man, I cherished those moments! Taking the time to read the directions, patiently putting it all together and marvelling at its design. Only to have my younger brother eventually get a hold of it and pull parts off it or destroy it completely. You talk about someone going ballistic...............

I have the OLD tool Airfix Mitchell though, and also the kit that Revell issued a few years ago now, which up until now was one of the best Mitchell kits on the market.. until Airfix released this. :)

Beautiful work on a very sexy plane! My dad was nose gunner in a B-24 during World War II and second radio man. His plane had a mouse throwing a bomb on the nose. It was called Super Mouse! There were a lot of planes adorned with naughty nose art as well. I have many photographs of nose art that my dad took during the war.
@rebelsatcloudnine5 жыл бұрын
That is really cool Scott. It's always fun to see comments like yours from people who have connections like this to aircraft. If I ever find the Hasegawa 1:72 B-24 for a good price, I think I'll consider making it the Supermouse. Since he was the nose gunner, I assume this was the B-24J variant?

Puts me in mind of the 1/72 Airfix B.25 I made (back 1968) based on the Psychedelic Monster - which was the 'form up' camera plane Spitfire Productions used on the (real world) filming of "Battle of Britain." They used the most lurid colour scheme they could think of and matching their colours was a right mission. Why? Because my father was a technician on the picture at Duxford (or North Wield) and he showed me a picture of their B.25. Wild. Your version is undoubtedly better but your vid' dragged up that long ago memory. Well done, Sir!

Excellent build! I always look forward to your build videos and have enjoyed every one of them. This kit is on my want list and I am glad to see it is a new mold Airfix kit (unlike the re-release of their old B-26 kit). In the past, I used to avoid Airfix kits, but the new kits are fantastic and great value. This looks like another well-engineered kit, but I do not like the marking choices that Airfix made. There were so many other aircraft/squadrons to choose from. Since most served in the Pacific at least one of the choices should have been from that theater. I will look for some aftermarket decals to replace them.

Thank you Duncan, and greetings from Alberta Canada :) I use a Tamiya HG Superfine III, but for a beginner airbrush there's nothing better than an Iwata NEO CN. This was the first airbrush that I used, and it lasted really well for it's 5-year warranty. I like it because it's a very new user friendly without being overly complicated as some more high-end brushes tend to be. And you can get some really great results with it. I don't know the manufacturer of my compressor, on the other hand, it's a simple generic (and noisy) compressor. It shoots about 25 PSI so that's basically all that I need, I have a control on it for less air.

@@duncankent1330 That's a really good point, as a lot of learning to airbrush is trail and error, and that includes maintenance of the airbrush. Excellent model, well done! And I have two questions, I hope someone responds. Wouldn't mineral spirits take off any of the paint when removing the wash with a brush? And, after the decals are applied would it make sense to use a knife to scribe along the panel lines instead of having the decals sit right on top? I've always wondered about my second question.
@rebelsatcloudnine4 жыл бұрын
No, because the Mineral Spirits is only reacting to the oil paints. It can take off acrylic if you are really aggressive with the Spirits. I used a good gloss coat before the oils to protect the surface layer. That's what I did to the decals after they had settled onto the model. I took a new knife and cut the decals in the panel lines, then I added more decal solvents to help the new edges conform to the surface.

That was very entertaining! Reminded me of the movie Catch 22. I could see Rosarian in the nose of your model asking where his parachute is 😳 I’ve got a few questions though. #1.Is this airplane currently in a museum? The nose art kinda reminds me of the history of a B25 and it’s exploits in North Africa during WWII with it citations listed. #2. Why is a British tail flash on the vertical stabs? Is there an American version that uses that kind of identification? #3. What did you do to make it NOT be a tail sitter? The real-estate is at a premium in that nose. And #4. What was that tool you used applying the tail gunners glass? Does it use vacuum? If so, I need one of those! Beautiful job!👍🏼
@rebelsatcloudnine5 жыл бұрын
"Where the hell is my parachute"? 1. Not that I'm aware of. This B-25 was similar to the B-17 Memphis Belle as it was the first to finish its tour of duty. The map on the nose was to show the locations that were bombed. 2. I believe that this was because it was when the U.S first joined in one the war. They were fighting alongside the British at this point and being shot down. So the solution was to add Canadian radio operators to the U.S crews. These Canadians in the RCAF would guide the American pilots around the British locations so that they wouldn't get shot at. 3. Aside from the Scale Aircraft Conversions white metal set, I added a lot of weight to behind the cockpit, and they still wasn't enough so I had to add more behind the firewalls in the nacelles. 4. I can't remember what that thing is called but yeah it's a little suction cup tool. Basically like a pipette, I don't use it that much but when I do I really need it so I'm glad that I bought it.
