I remember building models back in the 70s. I'd use my scout knife to cut the parts out of the frame and smooth the cuts with my mom's nail file. My favorites were the F-4 Phantom, P-47 Thunderbolt, B-17 Flying Fortress, and Huey Cobra. I used Testors spray and bottled paints. Those were the days.

A wonderful way to spend 21+ minutes. You have taken an old kit, and made a gem out of it. I've learned that B-25's take an inordinate amount of weight up front in order to keep this bird on 3 legs. I've most always had to resort to the ladder or step in back to keep the tail up. I enjoyed the NMF prep and paint. Very Nice result!
@HootOwl5133 жыл бұрын
You might be able to sneak a mix of BBs and PlayDoh inside the cowlings and forward of the landing gear in the nacelles.. With a clear bombardier J1 nose any weights in there may be harder to conceal.

That was one of my first models, more than six decades ago. B-25 "Mitchell" by REVELL. I had just read "30 Seconds Over Tokyo", so I was disappointed that the decals were not "Ruptured Duck" nose art. No tweasers, no gloves.... Lots of glue where it didn't belong.

I have exactly the same project on my shelf, all painted and decalled, with Eduard’s BigEd set applied and LEDs for interior lighting. After a couple of weeks, nasty seem lines appeared on the upper and lower fuselage. Your advice to let the kit sit for a while after assembling is a very good one.
@ScaleModelAircraft3 жыл бұрын
Yes I had that problem in the past as well. Some people use the "super glue" etc. But again It would shrink a bit anyway. That's why I prefer good solid plastic to plastic joints, with few days off before sanding. All the best! Dusan

I built a 1/72 gun-nose Mitchell as a kid in the 60s! I'm thinking it was from Monogram, maybe? It would be laughable by today's standards. I haven't built kits in decades, but the complexity, part count, and finish in today's offerings blow my mind! The price reflects that, of course, but the expectations are far beyond what we could have imagined back then.
@roryschweinfurter41113 жыл бұрын
Was yours the big 1-25 model that's the one I had
@HootOwl5133 жыл бұрын
The 1958 Monogram kit was ''box-scale'' -- meaning all the boxes were the same, and the airplane kits were sized to fit. I have one. I'm rebuilding it for a project. If you go metric a real B-25 has a wingspan of 20.6 meters. The kit plane's wingspan is 29.9 Cm. Do the math and you get about 1/69 -1/70th scale. Rivet detail is attrocious by modern standards. Rivet heads the size of walnuts. Also clear raised lines for where the decals go. The B-25H [w/ 75mm cannon] was obsolete for combat by 1947 when the USAF was created and the national marking got a red stripe added to its ''wings''. But it was a pretty model for its day, and only retailed for 98 Cents.

That's correct, but please have in mind that it is a regular, not a solid nose one. All the best! Dusan.
@thekinksfan51023 жыл бұрын
@@ScaleModelAircraftI didn't know that. Hasegawa has the unfortunate habit of breaking the kits in multiple small sprues, not many unused parts provided. This way they can release different boxings for specific versions. But the problem is that they are not available, or are very expensive. All the best to you too, Simon
@ScaleModelAircraft3 жыл бұрын
Well that's true the H isn't available... btw, at the moment Hasegawa (E16) B-25J is available on plast model* website, not bad price, the same plastic that you get in limited edition Eduard. (I don't have anything with that shop). All the best!! Dusan.
@thekinksfan51023 жыл бұрын
@@ScaleModelAircraft yes I noticed too that it's available there, and this week - 12% for hasegawa. I think plastmodel and mojehobby probably have the best prices for hasegawa. Some kits cost only a couple of euros more than on plaza japan or hlj. They are imported by hobby 2000. I already ordered the eduard limited edition from a local finnish store for 36€, and since I don't pay for the postage it's a reasonable price. Regards, Simon
