This is my Airfix / Academy 1/35 T34/85 No112 Factory, Full Build, Tank Model Step By Step, Part 1. This is the Airfix boxing of the Academy kit, the kit features link and length tracks, photo etch engine grills, heavy cast texture on the turret and relevant parts and slide moulded gun barrels.
In this video I complete construction and add my own grab handles from wire, remove and improve the cast texture on the turret, covert the tank to a late 1945 production run and generally try to improve many of the faults.

If you ever decide to do another T-34 maybe consider the RFM T-34/122. It’s a unique blend of a familiar hull, wheels, tracks with a bizarre turret and massive gun. The kit is beautiful.

I love T-34’s..Got a couple of Zvezda T-34’s which I like but then I found the MiniArt kits and wow.!.Complex but amazing.!Just ordered one more from ‘One35Scale’,(at a great price👍)as well as a Miniart T-55A(as the T-55A is a beautiful tank).. Airfix/Academy armor are confusing at best.I’ve got a couple of their Tigers…🥺..Please,it was before I see your Airfix tiger build.!🫥

Thx for the video, very nice! I built myself a cheaper tool for wire handles. A leftover piece of aluminum square tube and then drilled 0.8mm holes at various intervals. Insert the wire into the hole, bend flat once and then for the second bend, simply bend over the edge again. it makes super right angle bends. It's super easy to build yourself if you want it a little cheaper.

The recommendation to build the RFM kit instead is absolutely spot on. Of course the RFM isn't a Factory 112 kit so if that's the version you want, you are stuck with Academy or Miniart. But in terms of quality, RFM is outstanding.

Will be interesting to watch the series as you progress further. I built a variant of this Academy kit that is fitted out as one captured by the Germans. I found the tracks a bit ordinary as point out, but otherwise found it a really good kit to build.

I am almost finished with the RFM T34. It’s a decent kit. Details and fidelity of parts are nice. My biggest complaint would be the instructions. Some of the steps leave much to the imagination as to part fitment and some of the parts are labeling incorrectly. It’s better than the Tamiya and less complex than the Miniart kit. For the $$$, it’s a winner. Great build series as always. Thank you for putting out these videos!

I was going to say you're unfairly hard on Academy but being in the middle of building their Stug IV I'm starting to agree with you more and more. Pretty sure those holders on the front are for a plank of wood to stop mud/water splashing into the driver's hatch. Also, dumb question that might have been aswered already: You gonna do zimmerit on this series?

I've built some Academy kits and agree with you. i won't be buying anymore. I've always accepted Airfix as the budget end of plastic kits and generally dealt with the issues that are invariably in each of their kits. Presently I am building the 2019 released Tamiya P38 Lightning and it is really an amazing kit. The fit is scarily good and the way it builds is straight forward with no issues with ejector pins or flash. This said it is not the cheapest of kits but I think worth the extra. RFM and CSM are in the same league as Tamiya so I will definitely gor for the RFM T34.

You're bang on about the risk to these older manufactuers rep if they keep pumping out average kits with only a marginal price saving. Especially with the internet around you can't hide these deficiencies wheras in anytime up to 2000 you probably wouldn't be able to find out if a kit was a dud without building it. All you've got is the brand name. Disappointing from Airfix and hopefully an aberation as their new tooled stuff is pretty good, as you've reviewed on the channel as well. Feel like they are trading on their name a bit. Maybe they followed the Russian armour production standards that close enough is good enough :D

Soviet tanks were pretty rough.. the examples still around show welding seams that would have given German or Allied quality control a seizure... but they were meant to be rolled out and straight into action, their life expectancy wasn't meant to be too high.. so kits can get away with a fair bit there.. ofc you can alter it if you want to fill, file and buff the seams.

Great video!!! Have built a few Academy kits and always seem to have some type of "unnecessary" challenge with them, for whatever reason. Really DO NOT like their track shoes (unless link-n-link), mainly because have found that the 1-piece vinyl are just a tad bit too short!! Also, fit issues, "questionable" instruction sheet and decals. Academy kits remind of of Italeri kits - exercise in futility sometimes. BOTH companies offer interesting subject matter, but....Always try to avoid these companies unless something catches my attention.

Totally agree with these reboxes airfix claims they have added little extras to each kit to better them too haha! I liked the hetzer bar tracks! They won't build a rebox if it's been built before all about profit with airfix! They have had to do this or fall! No Academy pE fret is correct believe it or not!

These new ex Academy range Airfix 1.35 scale have a high parts count. That's okay as long as you're happy fitting parts which are never going to be seen on the finished model. Personally, I can't see the point. Of all the Tamiya kits I've made, injector pin marks have never been a problem.

Great channel.....shitty kit. I'll stick to the Zvezda ones which are fantastic. I like Academy's new mould pziv, StuG iv etc and they are fantastic. This kit looks pretty bad with the exaggerated texture, rear mesh and other problems. Those "fuel" drums at the back are actually smoke drums. The two turret tops are interesting.....one WW2 and one post WW2, although there's now evidence the separate done ventilator turrets WERE used at the latter end of WW2. Looking forward to painting. Kutgw.

Some of airfix latest kits are great in design But quality and QC are awful. Huge sink marks, warp page, nearly every aircraft canopy is marked or damaged and if you contact airfix they think this is OK! I have not bought a airfix kit for over 3 yrs and will continue with that and I am a brit! Airfix need a kick up the butt

Are you sure that you did not misidentify the vehicle from your photo? What they say is for the Korean war (2 separate ventilators) was already built in 45, as evidenced by a photo in the book The Red Army on Parade from the June parade. Are you sure what you see in the picture is not an factory 173? The key difference is that turret does not have the step on the bottom half.

Could be worse - Academy have a nasty habit of putting ejector pin marks in the wrong place (front face of wheels) and misleading instructions quite are the norm. FYI, all the work was done by Academy on Airfix's behalf (Airfix's input was quite limited) and you've been reading the Academy instructions with Airfix rebranding - Airfix instructions nowadays are all booklets and make sense 😉
