Hello and welcome to Scale Stuff in this weeks video I am going to be building and reviewing the NEW WWII British Army 30-cwt 4x2 GS Truck from Airfix A1380.
This Austin K30 General Service truck hits close to home for me, As I'm from the Area that these trucks where made and family members drove them during the second world war
In this video I take a look at what you get in the box, show you how the model goes together from start to finish talking about all the little issues you are likely to face along the way, and I show you how to paint the awesome looking caunter scheme on this lovely second world war truck

@@scalestuff1066 Not started on any of them....yet! 😜 I’m cracking along with a 1/700 HMS Rodney at the mo. There are basically three kits on the market in this scale, Tamiya, Trumpeter and Meng....one of them is a full hull kit but none of them depict Rodney as she was, when she faced off against Bismarck! Second issue, there’s not much in the way of data re photos, design drawings, etc, so it’s a bit difficult to tie down certain details about her but after much cash outlay, I’m in the process of sorting out a pretty accurate rendition of her! 🙄😜 As you can imagine, photo-etch in this scale is an absolute ‘mare to deal with....even drilling out and fixing 1/700 16 inch gun barrels has been a right B.....d but I managed that but it’s either a day to tackle a job, or a day to not....knowing which is which is proving a bit critical.....😂😂👍🏻 That Caunter scheme is something else! There’s a small book about it and I must try and get a copy of it.....although my old work mate built the Airfix K4 Ambulance and finished that in the Caunter scheme and it’s what made me look at it in the first place! I failed to say that I’ve got a couple of SAS / LRDG Jeep kits, the Chevrolet 30cwt and also a Scammel Wrecker. I might forgo the Airfix truck and take Gecko Models version with the open cab, as that fits the desert thing a bit better....no reflective glass, etc...Also, AC Models do some fantastic figure sets and vehicle load outs for the Chevy and Jeeps BUT they are also commanding fantastic prices....roughly £15 a figure...it doesn’t get any cheaper, that’s for sure....😂😂

Ah well we all have that shelf so I can understand that one, Oww nice, I am shocked though that there is no kits of it showing the Bismarck stand off :/ . Yeah the ships can be like that, I spend an age trying to find pictures of the soul bay for a customer that sailed on her from a certain time frame in the 70's and finding shots was like hens teeth.Yeah the photo etech puts me off the ships as on mis placed finger and its game over for the part sometimes. I saw that book but never got it, I think I saw the pattern on a tank museum video, and you know what its like with ww2 British its all just green for the most part, so naturally drawn to something a bit different. Nice I have done both if they are the tamiya kits, and they both build into good models the jeep has tonnes of gear with it to really load it up.Just on a spree of trucks atm (you will see them later) but the scammel I think looks epic, just done the little 1:76 airfix one and want to build a 1:35 at some pointYeah tbh I have heard good things on gecko kits but not got my hand on one yet. Yeah sometimes the figures take the mic a bit, Ive been doing alot of 1/76, and you can get boxes of 40 tank riders for under a tenner and I kind of prefer that price range myself

As a child I never had the patience to build Airfix models and usually ended up with glue everywhere and a never completed model. 40 years on I could probably do a good job but I don’t think I would have the guts to miss out elements and doing them later as knowing my luck the section was no longer accessible!

@@scalestuff1066 I have a 25 yr old Defender that lives in a garage and gets dry use, gets washed a couple of times a year, it gets very dusty sitting at Glastonbury while I work for 10 days, pretty good example for weathering. The unswept screen area looks matted, insect marks do not clear easily on the screen but the wiper areas are defined and show movement marks, side windows show directional movement marks from opening and closing, more on the drivers side. I’m guessing light Matt lacquer and dust, mask off the wiper area, cotton bud for directional marks? That or light rub with very fine sand paper 2500-3000 grit?
