I had forgotten just how stunning Roy Cross' box art was for 'The Golden Hind' - burning ships, rent sails, and the residue of a nearby explosion hitting the water in the foreground. Astonishing.

The nostalgia gave me gooseflesh! Bought every blister pack produced in the 70's, one a week from the local chemist!!

Great! Thank you for this video! As a kid i wanted many of these kits but only had one on blister pack - Tiger tank. The tracks were broken immediately. I always wanted but never had either small classic ships and railroad models. Also i like Collector series figures, purchased some of them in boxes lately.
@grahamhurst4613 Жыл бұрын
Glad you have got some collector series. The new Mary Rose starter kit is a great kit to build and the new Tiger has hard plastic tracks much easier to build. Treat yourself! Thanks for watching and commenting

"you don't know what you've got until it's gone". Is the phrase that springs to mind. When I look back at my childhood in the 1970's and think of the Airfix kits and figures I had that are no longer available it makes me quite wistful. I'm thinking particularly of the 1/32 multipose figures. They all got messed up and ruined eventually. If I had them now it would be a different story. I'd be able to do honour to them. Similarly, the 1/72 scale figures, of which I had quite a few. This leads to the question: why are Airfix not producing these iconic figures any more? They might not always have been historically accurate but they had character. I'm no expert, but the company seems to have a history of strange decisions. Doubtless it's about what's cost effective, but I would have thought there's still a demand among collectors.
@grahamhurst4613 Жыл бұрын
I do hope Airfix look at what gets talked about online. The multi pose sets are on a lot of people’s wish list.

Loved the old Blisters! As you say, everything is on display. Just seeing one reminds me of a Saturday morning in Woolworths, wondering which one to get next. I have the "OAKHAM" signalbox one, unopened, as it is a personal favourite, and all my old card backs, with the great art work.

WOW!...What an incredible collection.....The 54mm figures are wonderful. Love the box art. I`ve built most of them except for 6. Not easy to find randomly and they can be quite expensive on ebay.

I always liked the collector series. They are a bit tricky to find at a reasonable price. I thought they might be released as vintage classics especially after the recent Napoleon film. I would love to see the 1/12 Imperial Guard figure again. Thank you for watching and for posting a comment. They will get built up and appear in the future

Never seen the Lancers, especially a Bengal one👍👍 29p at Woolworth - GREAT TIMES❤ you went out, hunted down your new pack for 29p and had fun for days or weeks. And meet with friends, using firecrackers to blow some old stuff to smithereens in these huge battle scenes in the garden.
@grahamhurst46138 ай бұрын
I know, I like finding the old prices. I was looking on eBay for a 1/12 French Imperial Guard and found 1/12 lancer instead. I thought it might be better to start with the smaller version. Thank you for your comment it’s still a fun hobby but no fireworks these days!

Arhhh memories... Re-discovered the Collectors series and done a couple few in my stash as well... They are a challenge and build up pretty well. The plastic card though is useless better to use good quality paper. Your Bengal Lancer looks very good. Forgot the prices back in the day 29p though seems a fair price then.. Great collection thanks for the post.😊

I worked in a model shop in the mid ‘70’s.Blister Packs are way better than the polythene bags,but they take up too much wall space.Cant stack ‘em flat on a shelf.

They were still using the contentious Panther illustration, but cropped - originally it had just destroyed an ambulance. Yes, really.

@@grahamhurst4613 - It wasn't so much the ambulance that was troubling, but the obvious corpse next to it. I might be wrong, but the original Sherman and Churchill VII packaging both featured dead bodies. Yes, war is hell, but dead bodies on the packaging of what was, in reality, a pocket money toy? Kids probably lapped it up - their parents? Not so much - especially if they remembered the war, or lost family in it.
