Nigel, As I've said before, I keep watching to learn from your techniques. I understand your approach may be only one of several ways to solve a problem, but the more different ways I learn in how to deal with problems, the better modeller I may end up being. I'm not too proud to say "I don't know everything - please share information with me." As I tell the teenage students I work with, "The only stupid question is the question you don't ask." Keep up the good work, and I really appreciate the engineering approach you have taken to addressing the engine cover framework thickness issue.

I always feel a bit ashamed when I watch Nigel - I am often quite happy to say 'That'll do, no one will see that" and I think of times like this perfect wingtip fitting. Nigel would have fainted watching me think 'Sod it, I'll fix that with a sanding stick when it's set tomorrow...' Absolute legend - Between Night Shift's painting an dioramas and your astonishing building techniques, I am in awe, and only too aware of my limitations. Trying to get better each time is the challenge for me. Challenge Accepted!

Wonderful stuff! I do admire a man who won't be beaten! No bit of plastic is going to get the better of you is it Nigel? Considering the amount of styrene engineering you've done to that engine framework, you have pushed "out of the box" to its limits so a few magnets would probably make little difference. Once again, I take my hat off to you sir. Well played! I can't wait to see some paint going down.

Another great video. On the spinner back plate, it looks as though there are smaller holes that have not been opened up. I drilled out the small indentations on the fuselage bulkheads (or whatever they are called) and they look terrific. Part D11 which holds the seat for example. Should the small holes on the spinner backplate be opened up too ?

Good on you for coming up with a method of securing the cowlings. I have built 3 of the Tamiya 1/32 kits (2 spits and 1 P51) with the removable cowlings. On the first two builds, it was a challenge to eliminate the gaps so that everything buttoned up smoothly and just as importantly, maintaining the option of panels on/off without issues. My last build went smoothly. Curious, is the Airfix kit designed or marketed to have removable engine cowls or is the intent to either be on or off? I don't have the kit yet (still on order), but appears there are no pins/magnets to keep the cowlings in place.
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench Жыл бұрын
I think it's designed for on or off. There is no way the belly or sides will "hang on" without modification and the top needs to be modified. In part 14 I'll put more finishing touches..
@WildEye15
@WildEye15 Жыл бұрын
Nigel, Having recieved my kit finally I am following along your build in the older videos, and been fitting the panels at the tail, but I believe mine are different from yours. There is no need for the plasticard tabs you have added, as there is a large L shaped lipp along the top and side edge on both main fuselage sections... Would they change this mid production, or does this just show differences between early test shots etc? its about 2,5mm wide. The fit issue on the tail wheel shaft is wild, I had to almost halve the width to get it to fit with the fuselage closed. Thanks again for your amazing knownledge transfer and advice!

Hello Nigel. I find your build videos relaxing. You get a little too detail-obsessed sometimes, but that's who you are. One suggestion: Invest in a better camera system. So much of your detail work is lost to the viewer with your current setup. Holding the work up to the camera usually does nothing to show the subtleties you're explaining (and I watch on a 49-inch high def TV.) I think if you invested in a better camera system, your views would soar. Scale Model Shed is one example. Don't change your style - you're unique - but an investment up front now could pay off big in the end. Thanks Nigel.

@@NigelsModellingBench Sorry Nigel, but I'm not a photographer either - or a modeler. I'm just an old guy who enjoys your videos.
