Well done for learning from the Cosford Mosquito TT35 and recognising that the Me 410 in the museum has had its props cropped at the ends, and not replicating it in the kit. However, I am still wondering why no crew are included. There has been some good effort into details such as the flaps and leading edge slats, and the 5cm Bordkanone alternative with the correct muzzle brake... so why is it so hard to mould a pair of crew? Some of these planes used an optical sight like the Hs129 did but I can't see if this is an option or not. But... great to have another surprise kit thrown at us, and one that is a very interesting plane too!

Simon, I saw an interview with one of the designers recently and they said that providing crew (bearing in mind their attention to detail these days) would be quite expensive as a great deal of them would need to be individually designed and made. However, I think there's room for them to produce after-market crew members.

@@richardjamieson6681 thank you - that is really helpful to know, firstly that it was on their radar, and secondly there is a rationale to their decisions. I can't think it would be that hard to clone crew figures from previous models though - or is it? Yes I would love to be able to buy crew figures at a reasonable price!

The release of new tool 1/72 scale Me-410 was a surprise to see I might give a try on that kit but it’s disappointed that there’s no pilots in that kit.

I know its an old argument but I wish Airfix would give the modeller the choice to display the swastika as the model looks wrong without it. Even if it was supplied in parts it should be a choice.

I believe it’s illegal to print the swastika in certain countries, in any form. I remember a printer couldn’t print a Dad’s Army audiobook as it had the map of Europe from the TV series - featuring the swastika - and we had to remove it.

I know I hate it when model companies do that, the best you can do is look for aftermarket decals

@@robertgarner11 pretty much so, and it's quite a few EU countries that as such ban the printing or distribution of visual representations of the Nazi swastika, so a common issue that also affects online gaming as well. Aftermarket decals are not hard to find to be fair.

some manufacturers get around the ban by having the swastika in 2 parts so each half is not a swastika, a very easy fix and why airfix cannot do this I do not know. Also the lack of crew is annoying. The lack of swastika is putting me off getting the 1/24 Stuka because getting an after market 1/24 swastika decal is very difficult to find.

Saw this aircraft at St Athan in 1992. Spoke to an aircraftman regarding the axis aircraft. The team waited for their boss to be away and ran up one of the engines in his absence. First time since just after the war. Looks like a future purchase

I enjoyed this delve in to the processes. But can I also make a suggestion for a 'secret release'. I know Airfix did a U-2 some years ago, - re-release that one anyway but what about a U-2R or a TR-1 in 1/72? Also perhaps a What-if! BAC designed a lot of amazing looking aircraft. The one I'm thinking of that would make a beutiful kit is the BAC P.93-1B. It looks like a single engined delta compact design. It looks powerful too with upper wing mounted Sidewinders, also I'm thinking in 1/72.

It irks me that manufacturers (not just Airfix so half-a-break there) no longer include i. crew, and ii. a display stand as standard inclusions in their kits. Something like the smart looking black display stands included in Airfix 1/48 Dogfight Doubles kit I bought a decade ago were quite good. In 2023, I think also included at a minimum albeit with the price adjusted to reflect it, canopy masks and at least three decal/livery options. Buying aftermarket decals or decals is disproportionately expensive and usually involves the additional burden of postage, so value adding with masks produced at nominal costs given the scale of inclusion in every kit would be enticing -understatement. Even Eduard has gone to four decal options in its bare bones Weekend Kits, a far cry from the days when they only had the 'choice' of one. In this case (of the new Me 410) I don't really care because a. it's 1/72 which I seldom -no longer, buy, and b. it's too expensive for what it is which seems to be an Arifix hallmark in my country (AU). IDK why Airfix think they can charge such a premium. Red box? Cover CGI artist generated Artwork? Reality time. Tamiya, Hasegawa or Eduard they are not. 1/48 & 1/32 is my thing in aircraft these days. I just bought a 2004 tooled highly detailed Hasegawa 1/32 Ki-84 brand new shipped to my door for less than the cost of this Me 410 kit, and it comes with a magnificently sculpted pilot figure and three livery decal options including stencils. OK I bought well, but you take my meaning. It's a competitive marketplace today. Whenenever I buy a kit, I look at the total cost I'll have to outlay including any aftermarket be it masks, PE, decals, figurines, display stand, metal barrels, stick on Zimmerit, or track links in the case of (1/35) armour, my other interest. Just sayin'.

Is it true the Cosford exhibit has the wrong wheels fitted?

Not sure but the ones on current Cosford images look very very like ones on original 1944/45 black and white photos. The Cosford one has had its props squared off though...

@@Simon_Nonymous the outer faces do like similar but not sure about the inner faces? A guide at Cosford told me 'they're off a Boeing or Something' and Airfix were made aware of this at the time. He let slip Airfix were looking at the 410 quite some time ago so this release only surprised me in how quickly Airfix turned it around.

@@garycrofts1421 that's cool, as I found more clear pics of inner faces (ie the side of the wheel that does not have the undercarriage strut) than clear pics of the outers when I was looking. You can see this plane in British livery from when it was captured and rebranded in ?1945? if you google for it, and it looks close enough to what's on it today. I also loaded up IL2 Sturmovik to check it out there (yes I know it's a game but...) and we seem to have wheels that resemble pics from the war. Meaning to get down to Cosford over the winter, I'll put this on my check list to see what I can find out!!

In 1/72 they are normally moulded so you can't show them popped out sadly.
