While you are shopping for pins, get some paint pens too... hehe
@johnforeman66203 жыл бұрын
I like the pens because the texture is more like an ink than a paint and no cleaning up. I have used the metalic paints on my victorian period ships, when there was a lot of polishished metal. The steel and brass finishes being particularly usefull. A very usefull video that introduces new ideas.

Great technique for the wood using washes. I used paint pens during the 80’s but the nibs weren’t as sharp. Keep up the good work. Mark D.

Thanks Mark. I really like those Lifecolor Liquid Pigments. There are many wood effects you can create with them. I’m also finding more and more uses for Posca Paint Pens. New video update on the St Louis out later this week.

From one shaky handed old fart to another, great job! I have a hard time seeing detail is a scale that small. Magnification is only so good. That hull looks wonderful. your wood grain looks in scale & the colors you chose are complementary. They took pride in building the ships back then, so it's fitting you do the same in miniature.

Thanks Carson. They loved their carvings and bright colours. It’s one of things I enjoy most about this period’s sailing ships.

You learned the trick us graphic designers have with those pens. Theyre great, best is to get the old empty molotow pens and mix your own acrylics with a fresh nib and bobs your mothers brother.

Very nice work indeed. Its great to see the use of the various different mediums, and the cumulative effect. I have seen the Posca pens before, but never in actual usage, I will invest in a couple to start with as it will help with my modelling, but should also be useful in my other main hobby of candle making/ decorating. Big thumbs up from the U.K. Harry. Keep up the great work.

The St Louis is looking good Harry, and a very informative video. I am not a ship modeller and I mostly stick with armour, but I love watching you work on your ships. I suffer the same limitations of failing eyesight and shaky hands, so fine detail work is difficult for me. However, at nearly 70 years of age, I suppose it is inevitable. The pens seem a good idea too, and I might give them a go. I have got to say that you have piqued my interest, and I might have a go at something nautical in the future. Cheers from a Blues fan down south!

I’m sure you will enjoy the handiness of the pens, pun intended.
@johnkelly20983 жыл бұрын
Very nice, Harry! Those pens are something of a revelation. Another useful aspect that I've seen demonstrated with the Molotow chrome pen is that if you deposit some onto a pallet to use with a brush, when you return the following day to a completely dried up pallet, you can reactivate with a drop of Mr Color Levelling Thinner and away you go again. I presume you could do the same with the Poscas.
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
The Molotow pen is more an ink with a solvent thinner. These Posca Pens are acrylic water based paint without even an alcohol odour. They remove easily when wet with water or the Lifecolor Pigment remover. Mr Color Levelling thinner however is a lacquer. Not compatible chemistry.

@@HarryHoudiniModels One question on these tho' i haven't been able to get replacement for the ''Pigment remover'' apart from one shop in the UK..i've found the cheap window cleaner from the Reject Shop does the job it as well... doesn't have the ammonia in it that Windex has which would dissolve the acrylic base paint

Another great video! I’m working on the Airfix Endeavor. Both sides were bulged out. I tried bending it with the heat gun- made it worse! So I have spent all day fabricating stuff to fix my mistake. Oh well, all part of the fun!
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
Bruce if you had soaked the hull sides in some hot water then they may have been pliable enough to bend back into shape. You can rubber band them together with the deck to space, but without glue, and let cool. Then you should be good to go.

@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
If you are proficient with your oils, then stick with them. The Lifecolor Liquid Pigments take some getting used to, but work well with Stynylrez and can be removed or adjusted even days later, unlike most other water based washes.

Would it be best to mask the edges prior to painting with the pen? The pens are a great idea. I’m 61 and have same issues, lol 😊
@HarryHoudiniModels2 жыл бұрын
You could, but the edges on this ship were high enough relief to run the pen without too much fear of spillage. I have masked and Posca Penned the waterline on battleship models quite easily
@captaincruise87963 жыл бұрын
May I ask, which flat coats are safe with the washes you used?
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
I use an acrylic polyurethane by Mission Models. It does not react with my Lifecolor Pigments as long as you spray light coats and let them dry before an overcoat.
