I think it stands for Plastic Exchange. IPMS Brisbane run it every May for anyone to sell their model kits to a large crowd. Both retailers and hobby enthusiasts have stuff for sale. Becker will have a table this year and I might bring some kits to add on his stand. I think its on May 15 this year. ipmsqld.org.au/ipms-queensland-px-swap-sale-annual-ipms-model-competition-may-20th-2018/

Beautiful work. The big question for me is where can you find this kit? It seems to be unavailable.
@HarryHoudiniModels2 жыл бұрын
It is a hard kit to find. Airfix has not produced it for many decades. That’s why when I heard of this badly started one going cheap I took a chance to see if I could rescue it. A lot of repairs and scratch work later and I am so pleased I did.
@russellstone90562 жыл бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels how is the Heller kit? It's smaller scale but seems good.
@HarryHoudiniModels2 жыл бұрын
By all accounts the Heller kit is not bad, more parts than Airfix, with a full gun deck running the entire length of the ship, but a some strange stern arrangement. Not as nicely moulded as Airfix with a simple flat stern area you place a decal with all the ornamentation printed on it. Maybe they knew something Airfix didn’t or they just got lazy. It is of course also a bit smaller than the Airfix kit. So if that is all you can find, it’s still worth getting and building.

Really enjoying the build and painting choices. Awesome job! I have one question, would the railing above the stairs be continuous or would there be an opening at each stair? Looking forward to next video.
@HarryHoudiniModels2 жыл бұрын
This was a thing I researched, as all ships I’d built before had railing openings for the ladders. However, as this was an early 17th Century Dutch built ship, they seem to have the rails in place and the sailors just duck under or leap over to get from the ladders to the decks. Seems absurd but apparently this was how they did them. Maybe they were removable while in action to give more deck area? By the end of the 17th century and onwards you see railing breaks where the ladders or stairs are set.

Nice build! I built this kit last year and water-lined it, but I found the plastic to be quite brittle, the masts snapped off, as did many of the other flimsy parts. Would have been better to scratch the masts etc.
@HarryHoudiniModels2 жыл бұрын
The plastic depends on the decade of manufacture with Airfix. 60-70’s White and Brown boxed kits were the harder British plastic, which I like. However the reboxings in the 80-90’s are very soft plastic from Hellers factory in France, then the 21st century stuff is a mixed bag. Early red reboxings are the Indian very soft plastic with massive flash as the moulds were never designed for it. The re-issued current Classic series is apparently British plastic again, much cleaner moulded but not as hard as the very early stuff from the 60’s. An old kit, with the hard plastic can get very brittle if it has been in a hot room curing for 50 years. Mine is a Japanese re-issue and is a nice workable plastic, not too brittle, but also not too soft, so the masts and yards won’t droop.
@randkorp20032 жыл бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels Thank you for the comment, I actually live in Japan and built the Japanese re-issue as well! Regardless, I love all the old Airfix kits and am looking forward to more of your videos!
