Airfix stops my build dead in its tracks, so I turn to my not-so-favorite build and bring the projector down from the loft...

Nice demo of your projector, Chris. I didn't think anyone would really have a working one around anymore.

I have to say that this is one of my fav projectors as it has never given me a problem. I have three, they all work but one has a sound issue, I need to see if I can get working again... Thanks, George... :)

Great to see you were into Super 8mm films and filming . I am now 70 years old and bought my first second hand Standard 8mm silent projector from Dixons and started collecting 8mm when i was around 12 - 13 years old . I paid for it with my paper round money and pocket money . I have never stopped collecting on film and now collect on Standard 8mm , Super 8mm , 16mm , 9.5mm and even some 35mm . That was a very good print of Tom and Jerry which seems to be judging by the box cover art was a Derann Films release on low fade colour stock . Did you know that film collecting never really went away ? It simply went underground so to speak . There are still various Film Collector conventions being held here in the UK and in the USA and elsewhere . You can also still buy used prints from UK film dealers . Classic Home Cinema who are online and Independent 8 mail order . Watch out for ebay buys though as there are some dodgers on there asking silly prices for film prints . Thanks for sharing this and i also enjoy watching your 78's and model kit posts . I look forward to seeing more posts in future on 8mm . Cheers !

Thanks, David. Yeah I did sort of... Just found out that Keith Wilton is still going, although at a slower pace these days, if you've heard of him, he was an ex BBC editor that took up the running of the BFCC... Now I knew that Classic Home Cinema was online but not Independent 8, good to hear that, I'll check them out as looking for a decent Standard 8 film to try out on my Eumig Mark S 802D that I picked up last year but not got round to having a play... You certainly got into the film thing at an early age, you must have an impressive collection, wish I had kept some of my stuff, moved on so much including my amazing Elmo GS1200, I had so much fun making super 8mm disney cut downs into stereo using the balance stripe with a pulse sync I managed to get hold of, rare thing now... Thanks for the support mate appreciate the comment as well... :)

Our family was always into slides/ slide projector. developing black and white photos..and super 8.. before VHS. I filmed myself outside with a hat..reading. Then , all of a sudden..the hat was on a table. I would pick it up and put it on again, only for it to happen again. (stopping the film or editing/splicing)

The fun of editing film and splicing into making up a show, mainly for my kids, they were my audience, lol... So you have been playing around in front of a camera for quite some time then, lol,,, Have you still got that film??? Would love to see that... ;) Thanks Shiirley 🙂🙂👍👍

How many of us in our age group suffered through a night (2 to 3 weeks later after getting home) of someone's holiday slides? Many many memories of super 8 nights mate.

@@BigGaz1953 Never had slides as a kid, too expensive for my mum, but she was really into taking pictures with her old brownie which I still have... I love 8mm film, just find it as magic today as I did years ago, but only when I had the money to get into it as a hobby... Cheers Gaz... 👍

Absolutely loved this mate! I’m a diamond apparently! 😂 loved the technical breakdown on the inner workings, you did such a great job of presenting the footage and such a lovely mix! Tom and Jerry is always a classic, loved Laurel and Hardy too! When was the home footage taken then? We had a few films that I remember watching but by that time they’d been turned into vhs for ease, my dad did have a super 8 cine camera, but I never got to use it, I still remember our first camcorder, that’s what started my love of making videos! Can we have a moment of silence for the malformed mosquito fuselage though, bet that really bummed you out when you noticed it, especially after painting it 🙈 please make more of these films about your projectors, I was hooked on this, that 24fps sound is amazing! I still film all my vlogs in 24fps! Well done mate, such a great video this one!

You are a diamond mate... Glad you enjoyed it mate, was not sure how this one would go down, but views seem to be picking up... I will do another projector vid, just need to get it sorted... It took me a while to film this, mainly filming the projector screen and killing as much flicker as Ii could... I will be doing a camcorder video too in the future, in more ways than one... ;) I remember getting my first VHS player and camera, certainly easier and not as expensive in film processing, lol... ;) Oh yes home movie is 34 years old, and held up well...

You are spot on mate, I just been checking him out and he did other commercial voiceovers in the early 80s, I now thing this is an 80s advert and not late 70s as I originally thought... Well done on recognizing his voice... And thanks for the watch... 🙂🙂🙂

Unfortunately this is a common problem with Airfix products, their quality control is non existent. I'm surprised they sent you a replacement part within a couple of weeks as I have also heard their customer care is also poor. Enjoyed the camera review though.

I used to have a computer from 1993 that had these floppy 💾 games on it. In 2001 when I was 12 I came home from school to discover my dad hade taken it down to the dump, much to my horror and disgust. Even after 23 years my dad still refuses to apologise for it. All my classic video cassettes are also in the bin and he's even chucked away my video camera that I barely got to use that's in the bin. I know how you feel about old technology, at least it works and actually lasts unlike the rubbish today that iust falls apart at a moments notice.

That's terrible, I would have had a fit!! Yeah, the old stuff is made to last, today we live in a throwaway society so there is no need for it to last... :(

@MrQuintonia yes, he's very wasteful in that way. Today you buy something, you use it occasionally and it's broken, yet something from decades ago, you use it all the time and it still works. I wish people would repair things more, not just chuck them in the bin and buy a new one. I say that to my dad all the time, repair stuff, recycle, etc!!!! I'm not even a hoarder, I throw my rubbish away, but just chucks everything away and it's very annoying as things just vanish.

@MrQuintonia I've been missing that computer ever since, I often dream about it. I prefer older things. He's even thrown away all my science books that I enjoyed reading 📚!!!! My mum prefers her Harry Potter novels, she doesn't throw those out. I never liked Harry Potter anyway.
